Can someone sit with her? We've had quite a few long car rides already (LO is only 3 months) and DH and I take turns sitting with him in the backseat.

We sit with our lo when we go on long car rides. Usually my husband drives and I entertain. She sleeps a lot in the car, thankfully and we try to drive at night whenever possible. I agree with @SeptMomma12 that is just a tough age! We struggled with her hating the carseat for at least 6 months and made it through. To be honest, we turned her around for one trip this summer at age 2 and she still screamed and cried. It didn't matter that she was forward facing. So, we turned her back around when we got home. Good luck!!

Definitely move her to the side.

Try strapping toys onto her seat (using those tie things or pacifier clips) so she can't throw them away from her.

Snacks are very helpful for us! I put Cheerios or graham bunnies in one of those Munchkin cups with the reach-in top and it keeps DD busy for a while.

Try leaving at a time when she will sleep most of the way.

Is she still in a bucket seat? If so, maybe transition her into a convertible seat before you go so she has more room and is more comfortable.

But others are right - it's a hard age for the car.

I have suggested sitting in the back seat and gotten my head bitten off at the suggestion, but I see that others find it works too, so I'd simply do that.

I'd be really careful with food in the car seat, especially if you're not sitting back there. My son's also gotten car sick after eating, so I'd bring a towel and a garbage bag or two.

@My Only Sunshine: we always take turns sitting in the back with our LO on long trips. We are on an 8 hour trip today and are taking turns in the back-- its so much easier! We can read books, give toys, feed her solids and milk. We"ll probably stop just twice in an 8 hour trip for bathroom breaks/diaper changes.

@looch: You got your head bitten off for suggesting someone ride in the back?! Why? I thought that was completely normal. I'm surprised people would react that way. Strange.

For a long road trip, we had my sister sit in the back. I've also done toys, books, iPad movie/show (not successful when she was under 1), singing, dancing etc. it's just more frequent breaks for getting out and stretching for the littles.

Someone sits with LO whenever we take long rides. We also try to time drives to coincide with naptimes. And he loves the CD from his music class, it really quiets him down when he starts fussing or crying!
