@bluestriped bee: Crazy! Kind of reminds me of the end of the semester in college when you had a crazy schedule and would think, "there's no way I get it this all done," but somehow, you do! You'll earn that Thanksgiving break for sure!

@faithfertility: how are things today? I've been thinking about you.

@FaithFertility: What grade do you teach? I teach English as a second language at an elementary school, but do educational consulting as well. I love my students!

I tested today at 14 dpo and got a super BFN. I felt nothing when looking at that very white test. My husband and I talked about taking a break, but I'm on the fence. I have to decide what feels right, and it brings up the dreaded IUI debate for us again.

@Happygal: well it's not over until AF .....I feel you in being in the fence, apart of me just wants to take Dec off too andc relax, but then again IDK

    I teach 1st grade :))) ♥ it!!!!

What are DH reasons for not being a fan of IUI?!?

@Bluestriped Bee: big day today! you can do it!

@FaithFertility: Oh, the reasons are many. It's unnecessary b/c his SA was good, it's unnatural, it's weird. . . he's a smart man and I love him, but I can't believe he has these concerns. I know they say it's not over until AF shows up, but I think a BFN at 14 dpo is pretty definitive, right?

  18. FaithFertility

    eggplant / 11861 posts

@Happygal: I can understand the not natural part ...but it is pretty natural you are just giving them a better chance

My DH SA is great we do IUI because with all the meds I take in order to O it just ups are chances eaxh time, IUI also helps with any issues with hostile CM and such,

Update me I'm sorry do you take any meds???

@FaithFertility: I have explained this all to him! Last cycle I took Follistim & low dose of hcg, then a trigger shot and progesterone. It helped to finally build up my lining.

@bluestriped bee: I'm sorry, but there is still hope if you were able to have sex! Will you try for another iui or still move to ivf?

@Mrs.Someone: any tests updates for you? I know you were eager to find out before Thanksgiving. How is it all coming together for hosting?

@Happygal: No updates yet. It was supposed to take 10 days (from last Tuesday), but I'm really hoping to get results today or tomorrow. I ordered the Lovenox yesterday and will pick it up this afternoon. My plan is to call them in the morning, ask if the results are in, and if they aren't, I'll ask if I can start the drug anyway, since I O'd a few days earlier than expected. I'm worried about being able to stick to my diet very well over the holiday (not being good = more antibodies = more clots). Ideally, Lovenox should be started before implantation, so tomorrow would be a good time (5dpo).

@Mrs.Someone: good luck! Here's hoping Lovenox is easy, breezy for you. Are you preparing diet-friendly foods for your dinner?

Just called to get a baseline ultrasound and they'll fit me in tomorrow. The RE nurse was so sad sounding on the phone that I'm not pregnant--nice, but also uncomfortable b/c I felt like I had to reassure her it's ok. She's also a little flaky, and it's hard to get a straight answer from her. I think I'm supposed to order my refills, but I'm going to make sure I have the go-ahead after my ultrasound tomorrow. And then I need to decide if we want a TTC break or keep at it--my husband has left it up to me.

@Happygal: FWIW, I took a break this cycle and it has been really nice! I haven't thought about TTC much at all, I have so much more energy, and shock of all shocks, my stupid body went and ovulated on CD 14 like a normal person (before treatment I ovulated on CD18-20, never earlier than that). It's hard to purposely not do anything to get yourself pregnant when you've been trying so hard for so long, but it can be really freeing too, to sort of get your life back for a bit.

Thanks all. Since this is the second time this has happened, we are going to ask that DH's sperm gets cryopreserved as a backup, if we need it. I know freezing and thawing his sperm really reduces viability but I think it's better than a cancelled IUI cycle.

@Happygal: DH still wants to do one more complete IUI before going to IVF, so in January we'll try an IUI. If it doesn't work, we'll move to IVF in February. December cycle is out because I'll be traveling.

  32. Happygal

    pomelo / 5000 posts

@Shutterbug: what made you decide to take a break? I think I saw that your husband was the one who called it? Thanks for sharing your experience, and I'm glad it's been a good break for you. Deliberating is torturous. I just need to make a decision! I think part of it is that I'll turn 35 in Dec., and since that is the age where people start to freak out, it would be nice to be pregnant at that time.

@bluestriped bee: My RE cryopreserves all sperm samples. They had DH give his sample at my last ultra sound before my ET, which was like 4 days before the ET. They tested the little guys and then froze them until they were ready with the eggs. They never mentioned that it reduces the viability and they seem to get pretty good results - at least with IVF. I'm not sure how it would work with IUI.

  34. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@Happygal: we had a follow up "next steps" meeting with the RE, fully expecting him to suggest we move onto IVF after our three failed IUIs. That was the plan we had in mind, mainly because we only have a certain number of ART cycles covered by insurance and I didn't want to "waste" them all on IUIs. But in that meeting, the RE told us that IUIs (and FETs) don't count toward the covered cycles, so it made me rethink my plan, since IVF is such a big step. Originally we said ok, then we'll do two more IUIs (the ins company doesn't really like you to do more than 5 before moving to IVF) and then regroup. The RE had told us that of course now our odds of success with IUIs are lower than when we started because of the three failed ones, and that really stuck in DH's head. He basically said why go through all this if our odds are bad and we have a future plan in place. It was very hard for me to agree to that and not feel a bit like I was "giving up", so our compromise was to do one more IUI and take one month off (although it'll be more like 2 because I'll be on BCP in preparation for IVF).

ETA: ack, sorry for the novel!

@justdarling: Oh, I just saw looked at the Cryopreservation sheet they gave me. I was somewhat wrong in viability. "Specimens that undergo cryopreservation can have a 75% or greater loss of the initial motile sperm."

When I first suggested it, the medical assistant made it seem like going through cryopreservation was drastically going to affect my chances at my IUI. Considering this cycle is a complete bust, I think I'll take those chances over not having one at all.

The paper they gave me said that he can make 'deposits' many times and many vials can be thawed to make up for the loss.

Another minor update! I might be able to fit another IUI before Christmas!! My usual cycles are longer like 33 days but since I was on Femera and used a trigger shot, it should shorten my cycle to 28 ish days. (On my normal cycle, I would be expecting to O after Christmas and I'm planning on being out of town.) If I get AF by Dec 10th, I should be able to fit an IUI on the 24th. Hmm, let's hope my RE is open until the 24th, at least. Man, another month where I am racing against the holiday clock!

@Happygal: Yep! I was able to convince DH to have us host after some minor extended-family drama (that we weren't involved in). I'm planning an awesome Thanksgivukkah mashup, and I'll be able to eat EVERYTHING. A cousin is going to be in town helping me cook, and she has a lot of the same food issues I have, so it will be nice to have someone helping me who understands. I'm so excited

@FaithFertility: I talked to the RE and they agreed to let DH freeze his sperm. Yay!
As for next cycle, the office is closed Dec 24 and 25th.

So I have to get my period on Dec 9th. I got my trigger shot on Nov 25th so two weeks exactly is Dec 9th.

If it happens, great! If it doesn't, i'll just take a Christmas break and be ready for January's IUI.
