Hellobee Boards

Hand sanitizer, tissues, erasers, glue sticks, copy paper.

White board markers, tissues, and pencils go by Christmas and I have to repurchase on my own. I teach 6-12 and asking parents isn't really an option. Our school has very limited amounts of printer paper so the last few weeks of school I had to buy my own and bring it with me to the copier.

We had an allotment of copies and there were never enough..but we couldn't just bring in paper so there was really nothing we could do about that. I taught 4th and the only thing we typically ran out of was pencils. The items we asked for at the beginning of the year fortunately lasted pretty much all the way through. Except pencils. I think 4th graders eat pencils. Those Ticonderogas erase well, but they must also be tasty

@bluestriped bee: out of luck. you could ask a coworker to use their code but i tried to never do that. we just had to plan ahead so it didnt happen.

@bluestriped bee: I teach at a relatively wealthy suburb and we never run out of anything. Ever. If I complain that there are no paper towels there is a resolution within an hour. The injustice of resources for children in this country is unreal.
The only thing I run out of is patience!

Copy paper is huge in our building. Other items are high lighters, glue sticks, erasers, pencils, tissues, and paper towels. I work in a low socioeconomic status area. A lot of our students are gifted their school supplies by churches or charities. They only give the basics so those students come without the paper towels or tissues on the list.

As a teacher, I've already spent $300 on back to school this year.

@Mrs. Lion: I remember a new 8th grade science teacher didn't know about the limited number of copies when she first started. For about a month we had handouts for everything. Once she learned there was a cap on copies she was so bummed. In a way it created more work for her too.

@bluestriped bee: Yup, we do that! What we do at the end of the year is the kids clean out their lockers and create a huge donation pile of supplies. It's something, I guess? And because it's such a well-funded school, the kids who are lower socioeconomically get lots of attention and resources- we do bookbags home full of food every weekend and we have lot of support for them. But I never take for granted how lucky I am to be in that school- hopefully my students do too.
