Or would you want to experience it?
I'd bypass it.
Or would you want to experience it?
I'd bypass it.

I would want to experience it (again). Even though the recovery part sucked, the whole experience was good.
Now, if I could bypass the recovery....

oh, i'd skip it for sure. i have no pain tolerance. i'd love to be knocked out if it meant i could be instantly aware as soon as she arrived!

@Rubies: Agree that the recovery was way worse than the birth!
That said, I didn't love the birthing process either and definitely wouldn't mind giving my lady parts a break by bypassing the whole thing.

@Rubies: no labor, no recovery!
I guess my first labor was so hard but the second one was pretty easy. Less than 2 hour of suffering before I got my epidural.

After hearing what a lot of my friends went through I'd pass. That's why I had another c-section with my second. I have no idea what labor feels like and didn't want to find out. Haha!

I'd still do it! I could do without recovery, though.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
As of now I wouldn't bypass it, but my answer might change in a few months!

I am a weirdo and am very much looking forward to experiencing labor, so I wouldn't skip it.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
HELL NO. I would not bypass it. These are the moments that make life so precious. Next time I damn well better be conscious for the birth of my baby.
I can't even imagine--two generations ago women in the US were knocked out for vaginal deliveries!

Hmm...I don't know. If I could pick and choose parts, I'd skip the last half hour of pushing bc my epi wore off, and I'd skip the recovery. I think I could manage the rest

I would definitely want to experience labor...it was a really positive experience for me!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I wouldn't want to skip it, at least for the first. Now, talk to me at the end of July and I might be singing a different song but right now I really want to experience it. It's the recovery that does freak me out-- I've purposely not thought too much so far.

I'd skip labor, but would wanna push baby out.
Didnt mind recovery.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
Honestly there are very few parts of my life I'd want to skip because if I did I might want a do over and end up a different person.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
I'd skip 6-10 cm! I actually enjoyed labor until the contractions got unbearable. Then I really enjoyed pushing. I would DEFINITELY skip recovery.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
I pretty much did skip it, I only had a few contractions during my induction, and because LO tolerated them so poorly we stopped the induction and went to c-section. I was totally happy to miss out on it, and next time I will opt for a scheduled repeat c-section!
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
Id happily skip it. I like to think that id want to have the actual birth part...... but thinking back to it no way!
persimmon / 1026 posts
If labor could be guaranteed a maximum 5 hour process from start to finish, I would want to experience it again.
grapefruit / 4819 posts
I'd happily skip the contractions but I definitely want to experience pushing baby out (with an epidural!) That was the greatest experience of my life and I didn't feel a thing, so it was doubly brilliant!
Recovery was pretty easy as well so I don't mind that either - I'd just want to skip all contractions that occur before an epidural is in place!
cherry / 153 posts
I haven't given birth yet, but I'd absolutely bypass the labor experience if I could. Due to another medical condition I have (hydrocephalus) it's not safe for me to be in active labor for a prolonged time.
papaya / 10560 posts
If it weren't hard work it wouldn't be special...I'd keep it. I had an extremely quick (albeit dangerous) delivery though!
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
no way! my labor was quick and easy and I can only hope my next (if there is a next) will be the same. start to finish, 4 hours..labored to 10 without an epidural and survived, got the epi and didn't feel a thing pushing 10 minutes later a baby! I didn't mind it.
although my husband remembers entirely differently, he says!
eggplant / 11824 posts
I magically skipped labor (scheduled c section) and would do it again. I didn't care how LO entered the world as long as she was healthy, so I didn't really see the point to going through all that uncertainty. I'd do the same again in a heartbeat!
grapefruit / 4136 posts
@mrs. wagon: LOL I was thinking the SAME THING!!! There was about 2 hours (I progressed REALLY fast at the end) that I would skip. That's exactly the timeframe. just pass it on by. The rest? I'll take it, I can handle the rest

Nooooo...nothing will ever top that moment when I gave all my strength to a push....& then saw my son...crying and teenie tiny...best moment ever!
Annnnnd then I got stitched up:/
pomelo / 5178 posts
I loved my births and would totally do it again if I didn't have ti be pregnant!
pomegranate / 3980 posts
After going through labor once and not really going through it the second time I would never choose to bypass it, I already feel cheated out of it from having to have a c-section the second time.
blogger / pomegranate / 3300 posts
I did skp it. I had c sections. Although there was a day where I had a few contractions. They were pretty uncomfortable so I can only imagine how bad it can get.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
No, I wouldn't. For as much as back labor and failed epidurals sucked major butt, I wouldn't bypass it. I felt...strong, and accomplished, and prouder than I've ever felt before. Still, 3 and a half months later, I think about it almost every day. It was scary and wonderful and painful and overwhelming and I wouldn't change a thing about it.
Except the recovery. And the pushing on my uterus afterwards. Man, I'd bypass that in a second.
persimmon / 1161 posts
I will probably skip it next time and have a repeat cesarean. My labor and delivery was a traumatic experience that I don't need to go through again. My OB said I'm not a good candidate for a VBAC.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
I'd want to experience labor, but no recovery! I think I described the actual pushing out the baby part in my birth story as pure euphoria. I had a great experience.
eggplant / 11287 posts
I would definitely not want to skip labor. Recovery though, absolutely!
Labor was very empowering for me. And although there were some complications, I kook back on it fondly.
