LO was just under 10, 9lb14oz. Home birth, mild shoulder dystocia but my midwife got her out quick and all was great

ETA Just remembered, LO's collar bone was broken from the maneuver, but it healed quick and you couldn't tell after a few months.

DD was 10lbs 1oz. Four days before her due date I had a small leak and went to L&D they weren't concerned with the leak because it wasn't constant and I had good fluid levels. They were concerned with my erratic blood pressure. They recommended inducing. I went home instead. 24 hours later I checked my BP and it was far higher than it had been the night before. Went back to the hospital got checked in, they recommended induction again and this time we agreed. Started with cervadil and had good contractions on my own every 1-2 minutes for a minute. 12 hours later I'm 2-3cm dilated. Labored in the tub, had my water broken, four hours later still 2-3. Accepted pitocin. Essentially got no where. Baby's heart rate started to spike. Had a c-section 45 minutes into her due date.
There was talk of forceps during the section because she was wedged so tightly. Her head, despite not coming down the birth canal, had dramatic molding from being stuck.

I knew from 33 weeks that she was large but my doc was never worried about the delivery. My mom had three nine pounders and is smaller than I am.

Baby was/is healthy. I had a great recovery. I never wanted the section but looking back now it was what got us both here safely.

There is some question about how much DS2 weighed -- one scale said 9-10, one said 10 (no idea how they were that far off?). Regardless, it was a normal pregnancy. I induced at 40+2 but was not pressured to do so (I had to do it because my childcare for DS1 fell through and my backup was going to go out of town within the week). The pushing was definitely more intense and a bit longer than with DS1, who was 7-11, and I had a third-degree tear. I was pretty sore for awhile, but frankly it didn't feel a ton different than my recovery with DS1. All in all, it went just fine. Lots of the nurses were very surprised I didn't have a c-section because of his size.

My second was 9lbs 13oz and was born at home with barely a tear. My first was 9lbs 9oz, induced at 41 weeks and a 3rd degree tear.

I'd say trust your instincts and try to acknowledge all your fears beforehand.

For me, my decision came down to would I rather:

A) Induce and limit the growth to increase chance of a vaginal delivery

B) Wait to go naturally but increase chance of direct c-section or other risks if baby gets stuck or other issues come up.

I have no personal experience, but I do have several friends that have had 10+lbers vaginally. A couple had no clue until baby came out - needless to say those size estimations were WAY off. You can do it!

@junebugmama: I don't know if she's seen this thread or not, buy @fussygal just had a 10 + lb baby with an unmedicated vaginal birth. I don't think they had any clue that LO was that big before she was born. Might be worth walling her!
