I did consider it, actually I probably would have followed through without the epidural the second time, had I not been on pitocin. Those pitocin contractions were insane!!!

Well...I thought about it but in reality I'd chicken out. I think what I went through with the epi was plenty...why go without?
I am still feeling achy in my back from it though. Chiropractor said that would go away with 6 months.

Absolutely! I really wanted a med-free birth. I took the epidural out of fear, it failed and I labored on pitocin for 15 hours. Natural labor can't be worse than what I already did, so I'm going to go for it!

Heck no! That epidural was sweet relief! I guess I don't see the point to being in pain if I don't have to be.

I plan on trying for a med-free birth with any future children. With DS, my water broke at 3am. I started pitocin around 8ish and labored until I reached the maximum allowance. I continued without any pain meds until 8pm, when I got the epidural, and ended up in the operating room around 9. I really hope I'm able to do it next time around!

Nope mine was perfect, got it At dilated to five and slept until I was a ten! No side effects really.

I just did! The epi the first time wasn't bad. It probably stalled my labor a bit and I didn't like how I could not feel when I needed to push. But the real reason is that I just wanted the no drug experience that so many women before me have had ... call me crazy.

Hell to the no for me as well. My epidural was amazing. It let me relax and enjoy the experience rather than dropping an F bomb and crying from the pain every two minutes. It didn't slow my labor at all (I went from 5 to 10 in two hours) and it allowed me to feel the pressure of every contraction with no pain.

I would! DS was in a bad position and I only experienced back labor & then trying to turn him, vacuum & episiotomy. If #2 was different, normal position, normal contractions, I'd definitely try to go without.

No way. I asked for that epi so fast I was in so much pain!

I wanted and had the epidural the first time, but went for med-free the second time. The epidural experience was positive (very!), but something told me afterwards that I could do without it for the next baby.
so, I wanted to experience that... but mostly, i wanted to try my best to not expose the baby or myself to any drugs. I was blessed to have a fast labor and good support team to make it happen though!

My labor really wasn't that bad... If I had strong feelings against getting pain meds, I wouldn't but...I don't! I loved my epidural soooo much, I'd do it again in a second.
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
I would definitely consider it since my labour with #1 was painful but not bad.
coconut / 8305 posts
Yep & I did! My planned natural birth was WAY better from better from beginning to end. I'll be having planned homebirths from here on out.

I hadn't planned an epidural the first time around, but when I got it, it made my labor so much more enjoyable! The 24 hours pre-epidural were miserable and painful. I don't think I want to do that again.
coconut / 8498 posts
Yep! If I had not had a cervical lip and almost ruptured cervix I would have with LO. My labor was so fast. I'm just going to keep an open mind for #2.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
I would! Only because the two hours of pushing (when my epi had worn off) was the hardest for me and I got through it; so I'd like to attempt it med-free! We'll see though!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
Heck no! I feel like my 2nd time was more painful! I only had my epi in for 45 mins or so, but it was worth it!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
I can't imagine much more painful than the two hours of back labor during transition when my epidural stopped working and I got through that...I imagine that I could and there's even part of me that wants to...but then I remember the glorious (and much, much needed) rest the epidural let me have when it was working, and I think I'd probably end up getting it again.
pomelo / 5093 posts
Yes. I only had an epidural because I needed a really difficult series of interventions. If I go natural next time (I hope I hope) I would be unlikely to have it. The pain from pitocin was horrible, and I'm glad I had an epi, but I hated the way it made me feel.
grapefruit / 4819 posts
No way - I loved my epidural and thought it was the most wonderful thing in the world! I will definitely have it with all future babies...I'm just trying to figure out how I can get it as soon as the contractions start, rather than waiting until labour is fully established!
nectarine / 2054 posts
Definitely not! I loooved the epidural - no pain at all once it was put in, not even during the pushing, and I had no problem pushing even though there was no pain. Epidurals are awesome.

no freakin way!! I didn't get the epi til 10 cm so I felt all the pain of natural labor, and was in an absolute PANIC that they might make me deliver without it (they checked me before the epi and I was already bearing down). I didn't want to feel any of that thankyouverymuch.
once i got the epi i was in 7th heaven. no pain, no problems pushing, wore off within an hour of delivery (I walked to the bathroom 2 hours later), no headaches..heaven!
Also, sex after has been tough (really hurts) because of my tearing, and I can't imagine that pain 10x - her head is a lot bigger than a penis.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Nope, I felt contractions and that was enough for me (I'll have to have a c-section anyways so that's not an option!)
apricot / 263 posts
@sorrycharlie I think we had similar experiences - I didn't get my epidural until 10 cm, either!
I have mixed feelings about the epidural because it made me shake and itch, and it scared me a little to have the bottom half of my body be that numb. But I think I would get it again. After having labored for so long, I was grateful for the rest and ability to speak in complete sentences. And I didn't have problems pushing with the epidural.

I didn't want any epidural at first but I ended up getting one (and eventually ended up with a csection bc LO was too big)...I would definitely get another one and probably would choose to have another csection (my recovery was a piece of cake)
persimmon / 1453 posts
Definitely! The epidural was so weird. I'd much rather deal with contractions...they were tough but at least I could move around!
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
I would consider it. My epi failed me twice as it was and I swear it slowed down my labor.
bananas / 9118 posts
Sure, I'm open to however it feels at the time. I expect it to be faster than the first, and that was less than 8 hours.
I only got a small dose epidural the first time- I definitely would do that again, I could feel my legs just fine, and it wore off very fast, but most of the pain was gone and I could labor down with it for a while.
nectarine / 2797 posts
Maybe, I only had my epi for an hour before I started pushing last time. I had a lot of residual back pain from it, so I'd consider trying to go without, especially if my second labor was faster.
