It's official. I caught my LO's HFM. I had a fever two days ago and today I am starting to see little red bumps all over my hands and I have a bad sore throat. How long does it take adults to get over this?

I feel like it was around 6 weeks for the blisters and resulting scabbing to be totally gone... but the itchy/painful part only lasted about 7-10 days.
And by "only," I clearly mean it SUCKED for 7-10 days. Sorry you are going through this!!

@Adira: 6 weeks?! Oh goodness! Thank goodness it is long sleeve weather and I can hide most of it.

@Ms. RV: If I remember correctly, mine started off as little red dots that itched and/or hurt, and then they turn into this white blisters that peel (no pus or anything gross) and for them to be totally gone took forever, but the last 4-5 weeks of it wasn't bad, just looked ridiculous. But I didn't have any sores in my throat... I hear that's the worst part, so hopefully that clears up for you quicker than the rest!

I had it for about a week, maybe a day or two more. My worst symptoms were the sores in my mouth. I had some tiny blisters on my hands. I hope it clears quickly for you!!

@ineebee: @Adira: Oh, I should have also asked- how did your HFM compare to LO's? Both the doc and daycare said C's was the worst they had ever seen and I'm wondering if mine will be as bad.

@Ms. RV: You probably won't like my answer... I had it worse than my son! Although his affected his eczema, so his blisters looked really terrible, he actually didn't seem all that bothered by it at all. Whereas my blisters were itchy and hurt and I was miserable for a week!

Maybe about the same? DS is 9mo and only seemed to have it in his mouth, which made him refuse to nurse. That lasted only four days or so. My biggest problem was also my mouth, and that lasted a few days longer but the severity seemed about the same.
