Hi everyone. My first IVF failed, and I need some restoration of hope. I thought it would be helpful to hear stories of women who had IVF failure/s followed by a pregnancy. Hopefully this thread will also help others who are going through this too.

My first IVF was a miserable failure. I had myself convinced that it would work because I had two very high quality embryos to transfer on day 5. I got my period before my beta, even with progesterone. I took a month off, and then did a FET last March, and now I am currently sitting on the couch with my 4 and a half month old son while my daughter is napping in the other room. It was a hell of an experience, but it ended up working for us. a girlfriend of mine did not have success until her fourth try, and she has a beautiful three month old right now. Keep the faith, and please feel free to ask any questions that you might have.

@raintreebee: I think it was Mrs. Green Grass who had success on the second time if I remember correctly... Ooh, maybe not... Who had OHSS?

Thank you ladies! Glad to know there are others out there who had later successes.

I don't know if you have any frosties, but I have heard that doing a frozen transfer has a much higher rate of success because you haven't gone through the intense medications and your body is much more receptive to a pregnancy.

@spaniellove: thank you. That is heartening. We have two in the freezer, both top quality.

i don't have personal experience, but my friend went through IUI 3 times and one round of IVF without a pregnancy. her second round of IVF worked and she now has two absolutely beautiful girls who are almost 2 years old. it was definitely not an easy road. i wish you the best of luck!!

A good friend of mine had multiple failed IUIs, then a failed IVF attempt, and finally success with ICSI and IVF... sometimes it's a longer journey for some than for others but you'll get there! Good luck!

My first IVF failed. It was heartbreaking. Also the four or five Clomid + IUI's before that were negative. We had no real diagnosis other than we weren't getting pregnant. The first IVF-ICSI I only got three eggs, one good embryo, one fair embryo. We put both in. I took a pregnancy test the night before because the nurse would call me at work and I didn't want to have a breakdown at work. We had no embryos left so our only choice was another IVF. We also had to pay for everything ourselves since insurance didn't cover it.
The second IVF-ICSI I was put on much higher doses of meds and I only got seven eggs and ended up with five embryos. If it hadn't worked I would have taken a month or two off. We put two in and one took. Now we have a beautiful five and a half month old son, and honestly sometimes I look at him and get tears of gratitude thinking about how much we did to get him.
It is a very hard and heartbreaking process. I was able to talk to my sister, the only person who could really listen and not offer platitudes. Even though the RE process can have a very exacting schedule, we also tried to not let it disrupt our lives and still planned trips and fun things as much as possible. I also enjoyed how close it brought my husband and I together.
