After two losses, I ended up taking progesterone and aspirin for my third pregnancy which stuck but I ended up with a bad SCH.

First, I'm terribly sorry for your loss. As someone who had a chemical pregnancy, even that early loss is devastating.

I would go to another Obgyn or get your current Obgyn to run the standard day 3 and day 21 bloodwork if you've never had it done. I'd also consider getting an ultrasound. I say this as someone who fit a non-standard diagnosis - PCOS no hormonal issues. Even though we tried for a while, my doctors weren't pushing for much but I knew something was wrong and kept pushing for more tests. It took the 3rd obgyn I saw to properly diagnose me.

I didn't. My gut tells me I just had "bad luck" because both losses were very different. If I saw some sort of pattern, it would have been a different story. My OB offered to do testing after a 3rd but I got pregnant with my son. I'm really sorry for your losses and hope the third time is a "charm" like it was for me.

I had 2 before getting diagnosed with a brain tumor that was pressing on my pituitary gland. The miscarriages diagnosed the tumor and the tumor diagnosed the miscarriages. But mine is a really extreme situation. I a successful pregnancy a year after surgery and then I got pregnant again as soon as we started NTNP after DS was born and currently due with #2 in May.

I have had two mc, a chemical and a loss at 22w. I also have a healthy DD, conceived after first miscarriage. In December we started going through testing and they found a range of problems: high FSH, low AMH, low progesterone, increased TSH and blotting clotting issues. Such a smorgasbord of problems, I thought we were doomed. I was put on progesterone and baby aspirin right away and got pregnant shortly after my HSG in February. I'm 7 weeks now and have my first scan tomorrow. I'm hoping the progesterone and aspirin does the trick. Good luck to you. I was told by my doc and others that it was just "bad luck" but it seemed to be more than that.

I had one mc at 6 weeks and a missed mc and subsequent d&c at 13 weeks. My obgyn then did a saline sonogram, and thought I had a polyp. I then had a hysteroscopy and turns out I had a uterine wall (uterine septum that was splitting my uterus in two and making it difficult for fetus to be sustained). Obgyn removed that wall and I eventually got pregnant. My son is 15 months old. I'm still scared of trying to get pregnant again after the trauma of two mcs.

I hope you get some testing and some answers its horrible feeling of not knowing why

I've had 2 losses since October and my doctor just ordered some bloodwork, mainly for MTHFR, some different proteins and some other stuff regarding blood clotting. I should add that my son came before these 2 losses. My doctor suspects it is just "bad luck" but offered the testing anyways, which I appreciated!

I had two consecutive losses. We tested the tissue at my recent D&C and it was some fluke genetic cause that apparently is extremely rare and unrelated to my AMA. I saw an RE because I hit a year of trying after that 2nd loss and the RE said that because I have low AMH and am now AMA the odds of catching a bad egg were greater. He said that he was confident that I still had good eggs and it was just going to be a perseverance game for me (luckily I'm a stubborn gal). I got pregnant the first full cycle after that D&C and I'm 7 weeks now. I go in tomorrow for my first ultrasound and am really hoping I caught a good egg but if I didn't, I plan to keep at it.

2 m/c's (9.5 weeks and 5 weeks) and a late loss due to severe birth defects (33 weeks). All bloodwork for things like clotting issues came back normal, as well as genetic testing for common causes of the type of birth defect our daughter had.

My dad more recently got diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder that, according to his doctor, can cause recurrent miscarriage as well as preterm labor (which I had with my successful pregnancy). If he has it, there's a 50% chance any of his kids would have it, so it's a distinct possibility that that's the cause (though it wouldn't explain the birth defect situation, which is still considered unknown). However, my genetics counselor says I don't meet any of the standard diagnostic criteria for having EDS, so we can't be sure. She had also never heard of a connection between EDS and miscarriage. (Interestingly though, she's very sure her wife has EDS (she already had an appointment for her with a specialist to confirm), and her wife has had two miscarriages. They had to switch to my counselor being the one having the baby to avoid it happening again. So I might have actually helped her find the diagnosis for her wife's miscarriages!)

I'm very sorry for your losses. If you really feel strongly that it's more than bad luck, you can push for testing. However, insurance typically won't cover it until you've had three in a row, even with a doctor's recommendation. So be prepared to fight it out if necessary. (ETA- Just realized I'm just assuming you're in the US. If not, I don't know anything about getting testing done, so disregard!)

@catlady: It's definitely more scary after multiple losses. I really hope you're able to get some answers and that you don't have to settle for one if you really want another. I resent your midwife refusing to give you a referral or further testing because they're arbitrarily declaring that you don't need it. You might consider going to an OB briefly. I moved right as I was having my second, and had to go to a new OB (I hadn't started seeing midwives yet), and they were very helpful even though I was a new patient. Though my midwives here have also been happy to give me any referrals I needed to figure things out just for my peace of mind.

After my tests came back showing no clotting disorders, I was told that I had better than a 90% chance of not having another. Three with no underlying medical cause is very rare. Which is probably why insurance refuses to pay for testing before three- two is actually quite common. But it pisses me off that you have to go through three gut wrenching losses before they'll finally take shit seriously. Anyway, again, I'm sorry for your losses, and I really hope for a happy outcome for you Adam!

@catlady: I had three miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy. I was referred to an RE, but despite extensive testing of both myself and my husband, no cause was found. I started fertility treatments because of my age and after 4 IUI cycles, became pregnant with my son. When he was 11 months, I conceived my daughter naturally.

Not knowing why miscarriages happen is incredibly frustrating though it seems to be fairly common. Hoping you get the answers and results you need!

I had three in between my 2 daughters. And this was after it took a year to conceive DD1. All three of my losses were different -- blighted ovum diagnosed at 7 weeks, a probable chromosomal issue with the fetus dying at 8 weeks (nondoubling hcg, sac size discrepancy, but a baby measuring on track with a health heartbeart) and a chemical pregnancy. Even though my OB thought I was just having a string of bad luck, he sent me for some bloodwork. Everything came out normal, and I got pregnant with DD2 a month later. I took progesterone until 12 weeks because it has always been on the low side, but looking back, i don't think it caused my losses.

@JennRimbey: Not at all. I was on the pill for 10+ years before I came off to try for the first time. It took 84 days for my first period to arrive, then my cycles were ridiculously long after that, but got progressively shorter. So like 60 days, 55 days, 45 days until after about 8 months, I got pregnant with my first miscarriage. We went to the doc expecting to see a sweet little bean with a heartbeat, and he warned us that it was too slow for the pregnancy to last. Sure enough, the next week, there was no heartbeat. I had a D&C a few days later. I was supposed to be 10 weeks at that time, but the baby was only measuring 7, and had no heartbeat...my body just missed the part where it was supposed to miscarry.

My second pregnancy was a few months later, and that ended in miscarriage at 6ish weeks. I naturally miscarried that time.

After that, my cycles were 30 days like clockwork, but I didn't get pregnant right away. It was probably another 5 months until I got pregnant with my first son.

When DS1 was 10 months, I realized I hadn't gotten my period in a while and randomly took a pregnancy test and it was positive. I had a really bad feeling about this one b/c I definitely didn't feel pregnant. Went to the doc around 8 weeks to find no heartbeat again. I had another D&C.

It took another 8 months to get pregnant the 5th time, and had a miscarriage at 6 weeks naturally. At this point, I had seen my OB who told me I was having bad luck, and I insisted that he give me the name of a RE. This wasn't bad luck. The first...even the second might have been bad luck, but not the 3rd and 4th. My RE let me know that the 3rd probably had no room to grow and also had some sort of genetic abnormality, but because they didn't do any testing on the tissue after my D&Cs, she couldn't be sure. I just find it interesting that after my uterine surgery, I got pregnant with my first cycle with her.

I had 5 pregnancies total - chemical, healthy baby, blighted ovum, chemical, healthy baby. I never had testing. I think if I'd had the same experience multiple times in a row I probably would have asked for testing, but each of my experiences was really different.

I have no idea if this is really a thing, but my doctor mentioned offhand that it seemed like my husband and I were "extra fertile." I got pregnant every month we tried to conceive - my doc said it could be that my body got pregnant easily, even with pregnancies that didn't have a chance of "sticking."

We're done with babies now, mostly because two feels like the right size for our family, but also because those losses were really difficult physically and emotionally. Wishing you good luck soon!
