Also what was the differences in recovery? Is it as simple as lady bits hurt with one and tummy scar hurts with the other?

I haven't had ac section so I can't compare it personally. However, my friends with c-sections recovered better than I did with my vaginal delivery. I ended up with a blood transfusion and a couple weeks of not really being able to stand without passing out. Then again, my friends with caginal deliveries recovered better than I did too. I don't think there's anything simple about recovering from birth, and I don't think you can make guarantees about either way.

My vaginal delivery was at 20 weeks and my c section was at 38 weeks. My recovery was so much better for the c section and I even had a baby to take care of. I will have a c section next time and am just fine with that!

I had an easy section recovery. I never finished my pain medication and really felt myself after about 10 days. I was sore and slow but wasn't in unbearable pain. I want to say my scar was completely healed pretty quickly.

I have not delivered vaginally but my C section recovery was a nightmare. I had referred gas pain in my shoulder & it was 100x worse than labor!

I have only had a c section, but my recovery was a breeze. I felt like myself within a week and was off pain meds (motrin) by the time I left the hospital. I'd chose the same route for the next time.

I've only had a c section but the recovery was easy. I had a big old baby so I think if I could have delivered vaginally it would have been worse.

I had a vaginal delivery, and my recovery was a breeze. The hardest part was the afterbirth pains.

I delivered vaginally and recovered fine I guess. I can't get an epidural though, so the idea of being out for a c section sounds sort of amazing.... I asked for one in the midst of my labor and everyone ignored me. Clearly having not had one makes me romanticize! I'm sure it's not easy etc.,

@Weagle: this.
I think it differs so much from person to person AND from birth to birth. I only have had a vaginal delivery but it was a 36 hour brutal labor, I had a postpartum hemorrhage, a 9lb+ baby and I'm a small person. Everyone thought recovery would be horrible but I was up and at em by day two and back to normal within a week.

I had a csection with DS and a Vbac with DD. both recoveries were great for me. I only took ibuprofen for my csection pain. Even though my csection recovery went well, I would definitely do a Vbac again. It would have been a harder recovery with a csection and having a toddler to take care of. I would say my Vbac was definitely easier but now I am dealing with some hemorrhoids from pushing.

Vaginal recovery was WAY easier for me. I think I had comparable experiences in that both were normal recoveries without major complications. C-section took longer to recover, made taking care of baby harder (getting out of bed), and just more painful for me. With my VBAC while it hurt to sit for a few days because of my tear I could do everything else normally, like it didn't hurt to walk around.

I had a c-section (super easy recovery) and I kinda want to do that again, but my understanding is that a vbac is better for baby, so I'd suck it up and do it the hard way.

My vaginal delivery recovery was horrible last time. I can't compare it to a c section because I've never had one but it would take 10 minutes to get out of bed, another 20 to go to the bathroom...I did have a 3rd degree tear though. I was still sore months after delivery.

I had a super easy recovery after my vaginal delivery, I gave birth Thurs night, went home Friday morning and was up walking around the block that weekend. I would never choose a c/s - it is major abdominal surgery. Plus more risks for both Mum and babe.

@creativemomma15: Hemmorhoids have been the absolute worst part of a vaginal delivery for me. They've never really gone away.

I think it's really hard to compare because you never know what your experience will be like or how your body will recover, there are so many variables! My first was a unmedicated vaginal birth, but I had a 4th degree tear which took 5 months to fully recover from. Due to the complications I had a c-section for my second, it was very straight forward but given that it was abdominal surgery and I had a toddler and newborn to take care of it still was 4-6 weeks before I felt really good. Six weeks was much shorter than the 5 months it took to recover the first time so it felt easier, but if I hadn't had the complications after my first I would have much preferred to have another vaginal birth, it was an awesome experience!

I had an emergency C-section with my first and the recovery was slow and painful and horrible. I'm sure it's different if you weren't in labour for a million hours first, but ugh. awful.
With my second, I had an unmedicated VBAC and zero complications - I was up and walking around back to myself within a few hours.
I had another med free vaginal birth with my third and again, a very quick recovery.
You couldn't pay me to have another c-section.
