I've always declared that I would keep my hair natural and never dye it, but I am getting more and more gray hair. Are there other bees who DON'T dye the gray out of their hair?

I did leave it natural until my niece and sister made fun of me because my white hair sticks out so much with my black hair. They then reminded me that I'm short so most people can see it. They went out and bought hair dye that night because it was that bad! Ha!
I need to dye it again. It's kinda overdue. I'm overdue for a hair cut, too.

I would like to (keep it natural). I see LOTS of women in my city keep it natural.

I don't. I'm only 24 but thanks to some genes on my dad's side- I'm an early gray-er. I have to dye it. I wouldn't mind keeping it natural if I didn't gray until my 40's or 50's. Alas, it isn't so. I'm not really up for rocking gray at 25.

No way I am ever going natural, lol. I have random gray strands, and I also have a gray chunk in my bangs that I call my "Rogue Streak" because if I let it grow out I'd look like Rogue in X-men. I think it totally ages me and I have no desire to ever not keep up with it. I get it professionally dyed every 6 or 7 weeks.

I didn't dye it until I was more than half gray. I could have kept it but I felt like it aged me.

No way! I can't ignore them. I went back blonde because it hides them better.

I am blonde and have no grays yet, but I will definitely not keep it natural when I do get some!

I have lots of gray at 31. I dye it myself. Loreal excellence is my BFF

Someday I will embrace my gray... Today is just not that day. The top of my head is nearing 50% gray though & I have to color it every four wks for it not to be awful. My hair is dark so the gray really stands out. When I was young I wanted silver hair like my nana, and someday I'd love to be a nana with silver hair, I just didn't know I'd look like that at thirty while I'm still battling acne. That's just not right, gray hair and acne should not occur at the same time
@babynumber1: I have started coloring mine at home too because I just couldn't afford to have it professionally done as frequently as it needs to be to keep the gray covered.

I do! I started going gray in my 20s (I'm 36 now) and decided that coloring my hair just wasn't for me. I'm bad with upkeep, and the skunk stripe just isn't a good look, and I actually love it!
It's actually surprising how many women I've had corner me (usually in ladies' rooms) and tell me that they wish they had the courage to go natural... honestly for me, it's just laziness.
I've found that keeping my hair in good condition (lots of deep conditioning and trims) and getting great haircuts makes a HUGE amount of difference, as does having a supportive hairdresser! A youthful haircut will make you look amazing, regardless of the color of your hair!

@mrskoala: I feel like it ages me too. And my face makes me look a lot younger than I am, so it's a weird combination overall.
@mrs.bird: My hair is dark brown so the gray really stands out for me, too. If I do dye it I'll remember what you said: "someday I will embrace my gray ... today is just not that day."
@erinpye: I wonder if gray hair blends into blonde hair better. My hair is dark brown so the gray really shows!
@shootingstar: Mine has weird streaks, too. Is the professional dye job expensive?
@bluestripedbee: Never thought that height might play a factor in whether a woman dyes her hair!
@greentea: I'd like to keep mine natural, too. I see women with beautiful naturally gray hair, I'm just not sure if I have the hair to pull off that look!

I'm with @Ms.Pumpkin:
I started going gray in college. Now it's getting pretty noticeably salt and pepper. Of course it's most noticeable along the roots.
But I only cut my hair ever 6 months, so I can't imagine the upkeep for dying.
I feel like I tend to look younger (I was carded the other day and the cashier apologized when she saw I was in my mid 30s) so the gray doesn't bother me.

@Katrocap: my hair stylist has told me I have no gray yet! I'm sure it does blend better though, so that's lucky
pomelo / 5073 posts
@Katrocap: as someone whose hair is 90% white and has been since I was really young, no I would not go natural. It ages me a lot.

I embrace my gray! I have a ton of hair so they don't stand out too much I don't think, but I have a lot of gray if you look close. I embrace it-- I teach undergrads so I think it makes me look more like an authority figure since I'm not that much older

I always said that I would dye it until I turned 40, well, that year is around the corner and while I am still only rocking a gray hair here or there, I will color it when I get more grays.

I only have a few strands in really dark hair so don't do anything but I hate the salt n pepper look so il dye it when it gets worse the go natural when it is full grey.

No way I could go natural yet... I started going grey in college and I have very dark brown hair so it's extremely noticeable. I used to do the dye/highlight thing at a salon but that got too expensive and time consuming. Now I just use a box... $3.99/month is much easier on the purse
pomegranate / 3231 posts
I am 37. If you look at me you would not necessarily notice my grey strands, but if you inspect my head they are definitely there, and in greater numbers than they used to be.
I dunno, I guess I will wait til it bothers me to do something about it. There is a complicating factor in that I am devoted to my amazing hair guy -- it took 10 years of shopping around in Manhattan to find him -- but he is pricey. Adding color might make my husband choke to death.

I got my first grey hairs at age 21/22! Devastating! But ultimately I decided not to care. I'm not big on things like dying hair, have never done it and don't care to start anytime soon! Don't want to bother with the cost or the upkeep! At age 32 I have a pretty good streak of grey hair. I am often told I look much younger than my age, and some people don't notice my greys unless I point them out.
nectarine / 2262 posts
I will color when I get them... luckily I'm blonde which helps some. I think especially on younger women (and some men), it is SO aging. My DH's sister is like 35 and almost all gray and she looks like she's 50.
But some people can rock it!

my gray streak is getting bigger. i got my hair dyed a few months ago and promised i wouldn't do it again because it took so long. i am also too lazy to do it at home myself, so i will be leaving it be. at least for now.

Luckily I don't have any gray hair yet. I will probably let it be because I'm so low maintenance. It's too much effort for me to dye it, and I don't mind looking a little older.
pomelo / 5509 posts
I only have a few grays so far, but I plan to keep it natural. Mostly because I'm super low maintenance and can't imagine dealing with the upkeep. Hopefully it won't bother me too much!

Nope, it started at like age 24...too young to have this much gray! so it's covered with a nice overall plus highlights right now.
pomegranate / 3105 posts
I would love to grow it out but it's not a nice grey, it's salt and pepper, which is worse. I always wished to just have a single large streak.
