Ugh! Every time I try to do my own nails, I make a huge effort to do them properly: base coat, two coats of polish, top coat...Then an hour or two of walking around like a zombie afraid to touch anything. And they turn out nicely! Except that within a day or two, the edges start to chip! I can't get passed two days!

I use OPI's RapiDry TopCoat - it's great! Makes it possible to actually use your fingers a little while after painting. I still only get about 5 days out of my at-home manicures....but that's because I get bored and usually start picking at them as soon as I see a possible peel/chip. Good luck!

I can get my toe polish to last for about two weeks. I'm terrible at painting my fingernails though, so I just don't.

I think my toenail polish lasts about two weeks before it starts to wear around top. My fingernails only last about a day and half if that. Sometimes it just depends on what brand of polish I use.

@chopsuey119: @Andrea: I swear! It's the only brand that doesn't chip for me. I shake the bottle well (lol) and keep my nails trimmed, so I don't know if that helps or not! I've found if I do one good coat as opposed to two crappy coats I get longer wear.

Ditto Seche Vite top coat & Orly Bonder base coat! Brand of nail polish doesn't seem to make a difference - it'll easily last one week. And with the top coat, you can move around in minute!

I miss my seche (pregnancy warning on there scares me off until I have this baby!) so I'm using essie good to go- it's good but not as good as seche vite. Depending on the polish, I usually get 3 days to a week. I do have tips in my arsenal to "extend" a manicure (I blogged some a while back) and tips to do a manicure that will last- buffing nails before polish, waiting longer between coats, THIN even coats (better to do 3 thin coats than 2 regular ones), keeping hands from getting too hot/cold to prevent bubbles, not shaking the polish prior to using, etc. Mostly I find it depends on the polish itself, usually you do get what you pay for!
