I haven't used them yet, but I would use them like @avivoca said, for unsafe creams.

We rarely use them since it does add up, but given our recent overnight diapers while DD is making a recovery from a stomach bug, I think I should right now - thanks for the idea!

Pretty much all the time. There were some times that I knew she had just pooped so I would skip it. But I did get screwed over sometimes and ended up rinsing more poop than I enjoyed.

@T.H.O.U.: scraping poop when I was preg with LO 2 was the pits! I am so glad I read about liners....the peanut buttery stuff texture was so hard to clean off!

Always. We use microfleece ones that I made. DS is very sensitive to moisture and the liners really help keep rashes away.
