I have 2 questions!
(1) Do/did you use it for just night sleep, or all naps as well?
(2) When did you transition out of it? Why? And to what?

night sleep AND naps
(2) When did you transition out of it? Why? And to what?
About a month after we started using it because she was rolling over in it, which isn't safe. We transitioned to a regular sleep sack and it required sleep training. She had been STTN a lot in the merlin, so that sucked.

@blackbird: I'm glad it worked so well tho! The suit doesn't help mine STTN but I think it helps her go down easier and less non-eating wake up's.

@snowjewelz: That's still a win! E was about 5.5 months old when we started it with her. I think her issue was her startle reflex and it calmed it just enough that she could go down easy and stay asleep

We used it for night sleep and naps. Mine didn't STTN, but it helped her fall asleep on her own. And her naps got better--we used it for a loooong time, until 7-8 months when she grew out of it. Then we transitioned to a sleep sack, and she started sleeping on her tummy--the transition was really easy actually, I was surprised.

@snowjewelz:
1) used it for naps and night sleep
2) transitioned out maybe two weeks after we started using it because she learned to roll in it. Now use a zipadee.
Her sleep was never great in the Merlin but I think it was an important transitional tool. She reached a point where she could not be swaddled ( fighting it, constant wake ups and almost rolling swaddled) we tried her in the zipadee but it was too much freedom. After two weeks in the Merlin the zipadee suddenly worked really well. I think it helped her get used to not being swaddled where else the zipadee was just too loose to do that.
Timeline:
4 months -5. Months : fighting swaddle dreadful sleep
5 months - 5.5 : Merlin, vast improvement still not great
5.5 - 6 months: zipadee, sleep is so much better
6 months on: still in zipadee, regular sleep sack is still too much freedom. I like that with the zipadee there's no end date for when I'll have to transition her out.

1. both
2. used it from 4-5 months to about 7 months. Stopped because he was rolling in it. I was so sad when he had to stop wearing it, because he slept really well in it! We just use a sleep sack now. we had a couple of days of early wake ups due to his rolling over but wasn't too bad of a transition.

Night sleep only. He didn't need it for naps - plus I didn't want to buy a second one for daycare/MDO.
(2) When did you transition out of it? Why? And to what? We transitioned at about 6.5 months. He rolled over in the suit. He is now in a sleep sack. He didn't miss a beat since he had finally figured out tummy sleeping.
I have a post somewhere on here about my attempt at weaning earlier (I think 5 months) and the disaster that ensued. I'm of the mind set that there is no sense in ditching it until the baby shows you it's time. When he was ready, it was easy. When he wasn't ... well, it was a mess.

@Anagram: So she didn't attempt to roll in the suit all this time? I'd totally get the next size up but I don't know when she will decide she wants to roll around in her sleep!
@Peasinapod: Thanks for your super detailed timeline! DD is only 3.5 mo and already in the sleep suit... She never liked swaddling so I kept going back & forth trying different things until finally pulling the trigger to get the merlin. I'm really glad that your transition from merlin to zipadee went well! I also had tried the zipadee but it's def too much freedom to make a difference right now! Did you ST on top of this?
@LBee: Such good advice! Don't fix what's not broken lol! But how come his naps were totally fine without it?

@snowjewelz: She was rolling at 3.5 months rarely and by 6 months old, could roll all over the place--but in the Merlin she couldn't roll till she was almost 8 months old, which is when we transitioned her. She was still in the Small at that point, but the legs were like Capris--but I think the thickness kept her from being able to roll in it for a long time.

Night and naps
(2) When did you transition out of it? Why? And to what?
We started her in it at 5 months. After a month in it a few things happened. First, she started trying to roll over in it. She hadn't quite worked it out yet but she was very very close. Second, her night sleep went to shit (6 mo regression? Gremlins? I don't know...). Like, she wouldn't let me sleep at all. She would ONLY sleep for night or naps if being held. So we decided we absolutely had to sleep train at that point and considering that she was about to roll over in it anyways, figured we would ditch it and sleep train at the same time. We moved her to a sleep sack.

@Anagram: Oh ok. So maybe I don't even need to get the bigger size for her to stay in it that long!

@Mae: LOL I agree... If it comes to a point for ST then it's just time to ditch everything anyway!

@snowjewelz:
There was one night before the Merlin arrived when she wouldn't sleep at all, swaddled or un swaddled. I ended up letting her cio for a bit over an hour in the motn. She was in a sleep sack that night. Once she settled she slept for three hours the longest she ever had.
The Merlin arrived the next day and her sleep became bareable so I didn't end up sleep training.
I'm lucky enough to have a year mat leave so I don't mind a few night wakings. My breaking point was when she wasn't sleeping at all. Which luckily the Merlin fixed.

We use for both naps and bed time.
With my son I used it literally until he was flipping over in it and was about to be one anyway It helped so much and he was content that I wasnt going to change things. Sadly it didnt work as well for us on my daughter as it did for my son though her sleeping was overall much better than his She is a tummy sleeper, even now at 21 months, so it was hard since she wanted to flip over and once she couldnt I didnt feel comfortable putting her in it so I stopped. We only used it for a few months with her vs like the 6+ months with my son

@snowjewelz: He may or may not predominately nap in my mom's arms / daycare's arms.... (hangs head in shame)
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@LBee: Haha no shame! I just didn't know if there was a specific reason you didn't use the suit for naps. We haven't either cause we sometimes put her on tummy for naps but now I'm thinking to do it the way we do sleep exactly and see if she'll sleep a lil longer than 30 min!
