We potty trained over Labor Day weekend and found that our DS was very receptive to rewards for going. He got 1 skittle for #1 and 2 skittles for #2. If you used some sort of reward, how long did you use them and how did you wean them off?

Following as we're in the middle of potty training with rewards as well, and I was just wondering how you wean them off!

We did m&ms for about a week and gradually tapered off. Luckily, he didn't put up a fuss about fewer rewards.

About a week~
In my limited experience, once they get the hang of it, they sort of know it's just the thing to do and they forget about the rewards (in my case M&Ms). I would just taper it off by not offering, and if they mention it, show them that you're all out of the Skittles but keep up the verbal praise.
Or you could phrase it like WOW you went potty! Now we can go play outside/watch a show/whatever

We've been using rewards for a few months but we're still not fully potty trained. DD asks for her reward less and less and she takes more control over the potty process. When she decided to go potty herself she usually forgets. I still like to have them for when we're coaxing her to go potty e.g. before a long car ride.

We used a short 6 minute minnie mouse video from that Fun Toy collector site. After a couple weeks, E would forget about the video and stopped asking, because I would ask her to pee before going to, say, the park. And she'd be all pumped for the park.
eta: we still high five her and make a big deal when she goes.

yeah after he seemed to get it and not have to think about it so much. About a week, I'd say, max. After that his body just told him to go and he didn't want to pee in his pants so that was apparently its own reward

It ended up being a non-issue for us too! We just kept up with the verbal praise and that ended up being more than enough...

We've been giving m&ms for a loooong time. I keep thinking "don't offer but don't refuse" but she's got a good memory! I might have to just tell her the m&ms are all gone and see how that goes.

Unfortunately, he's changed the words of the Daniel Tiger song to "flush and wash and get a skittle" so I'm thinking it might take us a little longer to wean!!!

We used chocolate chips. At first he got a few each time he went. Then just for poops. Then just one per poop. Then just one per day. One day we ran out. I showed him that the bag was empty after the last one. It was not an issue!
