My OB and I chatted yesterday about possibly inducing me on my due date (we're going to see where I'm at next week when I'm 39+3).
I was hoping to avoid an epidural for as long as possible, because I'd like to move around, but I know that when pitocin gets added to the mix, things get intense.
So - my question: if you were induced, did you also need pitocin to get things going or did the cervical gel start labor for you?
And please share your stories below (including why you did/didn't get an epidural, and WHEN during labor you got one).

When I went in, I knew I wasn't going to get an epidural; my midwife doesn't offer them. I was hoping that the cervidil alone would work for the same reason as you, I heard pitocin contractions are intense. They were, but I also have nothing else to compare them to. I spent A LOT of time in the tub. That helped tremendously. I also had a really quick transition so I went from 6cm to pushing in no time. All of that made it so that I didn't even want any pain meds, just wanted her here!

My order was Cervidil, Epidural then Pitocin.
I was induced on a Tuesday night at 6pm with cervidil. The first ten hour dose of it didn't do anything and I was given another round of it at 6am the following day. Started getting contractions around 12, got an epidural (I was completely anti epidural going in but I definitely changed my mind after experiencing some of the pain) around 8pm when I was about 7cm dilated. I was given pitocin around 9pm and told to sleep. After midnight, I was 10 cm dilated and pushed for 2.5 hours. My doctor recommended a C-section because the baby was sunny side up and wasn't budging....delivered on Thursday at 4:30 AM!

My OB said that depending on how far I've progressed when/if I'm induced, sometimes the cervidil will be enough to get things moving, but I thought that sounded a little optimistic
If nothing else, I'm hoping to hold off on an epidural until I get close to transition, since I've heard that's the really painful part.
Well, like I told baby girl on our way to work, it's up to her now and it would really be a whole lot better for everyone involved if she decides to make her appearance in the next 6 days! -

I went to a regular doc appointment and she sent me to L&D bc I was 5cm. So i didn't need the gel. She did want to jump start my labor with pitocin since I wasnt in active labor. I really wanted to see if we could turn the pit off and see if my body would take over, but once I was in labor and things were going I just wanted to get it over with. I think I was on a pretty low dose though? Not sure. It did suck but I don't have anything to compare the experience to either since it was my first. Transition was really overwhelming but I stood in the shower with the water on my back as hot as I could stand it at this point. It really really helped my back labor and helped me avoid an epidural.
