So Xander was NOT THRILLED about his first taste of solid food (sweet potato). He was thoroughly disgusted! Should I just offer the same thing again tonight?

@Adira: I offered squash and got the same reaction! I tried again for several meals after. I offered green beans next and still a poor reaction.

@Mrs. High Heels: Okay, I was thinking I'd just offer it again, to stick with the "offer a new food after 3-4 days" thing, but wasn't sure if that's what I should do, based on his reaction!

I think the first solid is so new - texture, means of getting it in their mouth, taste, etc, that it's bound to cause some looks of disgust. I say just keep trying. In he beginning we did the same food every day for a few days for allergy reasons. Sometimes by the third day she was loving it, other times she still didn't like it. We kept trying the ones she didn't like, sometimes in combo with something else.

I offered the same thing for a few days in a row, before trying something new, because I was following the cautious method I saw on Wholesomebabyfood website about introducing foods one at time, this makes it easier to catch and allergies or reactions to food

I read somewhere that you have to offer a new food something like 12-15 times in order to determine if your baby really likes something or not! I'd keep trying

M was always so dramatic the first time she would try a new food. Like leaning over the edge of her high chair and FAKE gagging. I would give it to her again the next day and she would gobble it up like candy. So I suggest sticking with sweet potato for a few days before offering something new.

@tinyperson: @Mrsbells: Thanks ladies! I was thinking about allergies and that I should just keep offering it to him, so I'm glad to hear that's what's the norm! My husband asked what we were going to give him today and I was like "Sweet Potatoes again!" and he was all "Uh, but he hated those..." so I explained about allergies, but my husband just thinks I'm crazy, haha.

@blackbird: 12-15 times!!!!! Well I guess that makes me feel better knowing this one experience doesn't really dictate whether or not he'll like sweet potatoes later in life!
@MamaMoose: haha, M sounds funny! Is it bad I was just laughing my head off at Xander's reaction?? I'll be interested in seeing how he reacts tonight! Should I do anything different (like mix with a little BM) or just give it to him straight-up like I tried yesterday?

A had the same face when I first gave him green beans, but he ended up finishing it up
We haven't any foods he's ever denied!

@Adira: For us, I never changed a thing, I offered the exact same thing any she would react totally differently. But if he balks again adding BM would be a good idea. It will add a familiar flavor, and also change the texture so it's not so foreign to him.

@mrsjyw: haha, well Xander denied this! After I got some of it in his mouth and he spit it back out, he clamped his lips shut and refused to open them again whenever I brought the spoon near him!!!! But it WAS his very first taste of food, so I'm still hopeful!

@MamaMoose: Thanks! I'll try it straight-up again tonight and if it's still a no-go, I'll try mixing a little BM in there!

@Adira: hahahahahaha he'll eventually come to love it!

@mrsjyw: If he doesn't, I'll have to question whether he's even mine! I love ALL food!!!

My son hated carrots, he refused them in a puree every time I offered. Sweet potatoes, butternut squash were fine, though, lol. So he might not like it, I'd stop after 3 times.
