Basically what the title says. LO1 never got attached to anything in particular, but LO2 is very attached to a small blanket she sleeps with.
I feel like I've heard horror stories of loveys going out of stock or being lost on vacation etc.
Should I buy a back up (or two?) I'm afaid they are going to discontinue the print.
Should I bring a back up on vacation with us? (It's super small)
Or am I just being paranoid??

Yes! I have backup loveys for both kids, and I actually swap them out each week so I can wash them.

Yes! But at some point he found out there were two and now he NEEDS both "brown dogs." So so much for that idea

Yes we have two! I switch them out often so one doesn't look newer than the other.
There have been a couple incidents where DD has spotted both at the same time but thankfully we were able to distract her.

Yes! We have 4 of the ‘issie’ blankets from Aden and anais and they just discontinued the print. Plus it’s super easy to always have one or two clean, leave one at daycare, etc.

Yes! DD has an elephant lovey, and when we introduced it (help with daycare room transition) she became super attached. So when I went to buy a backup, I realized its been discontinued! Off to ebay, I bought 3 more 
This way we have one and a backup for daycare (it stays there during the week so we never forget it, and I have a backup incase it get dirty. Then we also have one at home with a backup, which is only pulled out occasionally for laundry or is stuffed in the diaper bag for emergencies.

We did for my son. I had bought him a teddy in England and he became very attached to it. He was so attached that I had a friend pick up a second one when she went, because I couldn't get them where we were living! We left one teddy at daycare and kept the other at home. He finally gave them up after he was 6! He still sleeps with his AA swaddles (4 pack, different patterns). They are ripped and some have holes, but hopefully they will last until he has outgrown the need for them. My DD has never been attached to loveys like my son.

Yes! I just had to hunt down a third lovey for one of my girls. Interestingly, she was totally turned off by how plush and white the new bunny was, and she only wanted her old and ratty bunny. It honestly melted my heart a little bit and reminded me of the Velveteen Rabbit.

@justjules: Yes, and I routinely switch them out so they’re about the same level of worn. I’ve seen kids like @Mrs. Starfish: mentioned that don’t like a “new” one because it looks so different than the beloved one!

We have four. We keep one of them at daycare for her to use, then one for home use, and two backups.

I bought, like, six backups of the Aden and Anais lovey blankets I got B, and he could not have been less interested in them. He fell in love with a Jellycat fox that was, by then, out of production and a second one would have been $100 on eBay. We seriously considered seeing a Tile into it just in case.

Yes. But don’t make the mistake I did and give them all to your kid. She now has six, yes six, angel dear lovies that we must have at all times. Three of one color, three of another. So yeah that means I have 8 in my house (1 spare of each color)
She learned to count to six at 13 months old, I swear.

My six year old (yes six!) needs her A&A blanket to sleep. It came in a a pack of three and thankfully it doesn’t matter which but it has to be the original three. We left one at a hotel

For kid #1, no. He has a Jelly Cat monkey that he loves and there is no replacement or back up.
Kid#2 loves his lion lovey. When I saw him starting to get attached to it, I bought an additional 2 pack. I switch them out and wash them since he bites on their faces and they get gross and stinky.

I did but she never cared for the new one; she could tell the difference (texture was too new/fluffy vs the ragged old one). So we're just super careful that we don't let her take it out.

We wanted to get a backup, but the toy she became most attached to was a gift and we were never able to find another one. We just have a strict rule that it's not allowed out of the house and fortunately she's been okay with that as long as we can distract her with a plethora of different stuffed toys.

My SIL purchased three of these off of my gift registry. It worked out as my son sleeps with this lovey, one goes to day care during the week and the other is backup so we can get them washed. Also, if we lose 1, we're still in good shape!

We did not and luckily so far that hasn't been a problem. Both my kids have blankets they love and DD who is 4 has a stuffy she got from Disney that now goes everywhere with her. I have thought about buying a back up stuffy, just in case but I just haven't done it yet

Yes 2 back up Loveys and regularly rotate them. Or at least wash them all together so they get equal amounts of wear and wash.
And whenever we travel by plane I always take one in our carry-on and one in our checked bag.
ETA; fortunately my son would be fine now without it (almost 4). And he never seemed to care about a specific one. But I’m glad we took precautions.
Oh and we’ve also never let him take it out of the house except for travel. Like no dragging a lovey to the park or even in stroller. Minimize risk of losing it.
And we had one we kept in the car. For a while he thought it was magic that it was always there waiting for him. Now he just calls it his “car raffy” (raffy is lovey’s name)

@justjules: We also back back ups. At chapters they sell ‘a pair and a spare’ of most of their loveys. It’s super cute and helpful!

@BadgerMom: Ditto. She 'lost' one and we were able to successfully swap it with the backup and then found the original in her play kitchen oven. So now we have 'lovey' and 'other lovey'.
Sneaky me has a third that I never broke out because I bought that real quick on ebay once she had to have the two!
Back when she had one, we would bring the backup with us but never take it out and keep it in our own luggage, etc. I agree with the comments to give them equal wash and wear - we didn't and she kind of could tell they were not the same.

@badgermom Me too. My twins had loveys they were attached to so i bought backups. They found the backups so then they needed two at a time. I then bought 4 more for each in case we needed backuos for those! At the time i was living with my mil during the week, our house on weekends with the occasional trip out of state to my parents so i was so afraid we'd lose one or two and then be in trouble.

Yes! My mom bought DS a 2 pack of security blankets from A&A and I ordered a second set. We lost 1 (no idea where, keep hoping it will show up) and 1 is kept at my IL's since he sleeps over occasionally. I can rotate when I need to wash them.
We have a couple of lovey's that DS never got attached to. I held onto them for LO #2 but I only have 1 of each so leaning towards starting with options that I can buy duplicates of.

Yes, but it didn’t work for us. The blanket was already a bit worn when she made it her lovey, and I wasn’t able to imitate he same texture on the new one, despite many washes! She’d cry and shout, “NO! Not the soft one!!”

Absolutely have back-ups and absolutely bring a back-up on vacation! My son sucked on the corners of his Angel Dear lovey and they got pretty gross, so we ended up with maybe seven of them? Now after having lost a few, we’re down to four, but I’m SO glad we had back-ups!
Another vote for washing them and rotating them out so they are the same level of worn. We added two more to the mix later on, and he rejected them!

We have eight our son sleeps woth two and we switch them out every couple of days for washing - constant rotation so one isn't more worn than any others. he will not sleep without one

We used the A&A security blankets for both boys. Each had a color and I had about 8 of each that we rotated through so that there was never one favorite. It worked out sooooooooooooooo well.

We have A & A blankets (multiple backups since DS doesn't care which pattern), an Ikea dog (and a backup), and an Easter Bunny monkey (and a backup). The one thing he's attached to the most though is a monkey an elderly gentleman gave him as we was leaving Walmart one day, so no backup.

My kiddo is only 6 mos and hasn't picked a lovey yet but I do worry if/when it ends up being a stuffed animal she got from the shower or something we only have one of. We'll deal with that when the time comes.
