Xander originally would just sit at the big table with all the other kids, but recently started grabbing at people's foods. Now he sits at this... I'm not even sure how to describe it. It's essentially a high chair, but it's low to the ground and the tray is the same height as the table everyone else sits at. It essentially just makes it so he's a little further back from the other kids and can't reach their food, but he still sits with them. This is the toddler room, he's age 2.

When he was in the infant room, he would sit at the big table that had built in chairs, but he was always at least one or more seats away from the other kids so he couldn't grab their food. And always a teacher right there in case anyone tried throwing food in his direction.

@Adira: I always worried about the food throwing issue! I've seen the kids during meal times and the food is *everywhere*. We've had a few instances of hives from contact but thankfully never anything severe.

When we suspected LO had allergies (before she got tested), she sat at the same table but the teachers just monitored her really closely. We are lucky she has no real allergies though because I'm pretty sure she ate things off the floor a few times. There is a child in LO's class with true allergies and I'm pretty sure he sits with the others when their meals don't contain his allergens but I'm not sure if they separate him otherwise. His allergies are nuts and eggs, and our daycare is nut-free anyway, so they are just avoiding eggs.

@yin: That's awesome that at 3.5, your LO understands his allergies and is careful! Did you do anything in particular to make sure he was aware and vigilant about it himself? Xander's only 2, but I don't think he really understands that he's allergic to milk...
