My kids both sleep before 7 pm and I've been told by so many people IRL that this is unheard of. But it seems so common here on HB. So I am confused. I do have to say that I do not know many kids IRL that go to sleep that early but the Internet makes me feel normal?

I get the same reaction. Ds is 4 mths n has bern sleeping 7-7 pretty consistently since 12 wks. The in person reactions we get is 'no way' 'ur so luccky' 'i can't believe it'

Absolutely! Up until 13 months, LO slept at 5:30! Now, it's 6pm. But still, people think it's crazy.

We've put our LO to bed as early as 5:30 many, many times...and those were always his best sleeps (as in, he'd sleep forever!). We got so many side-eyed looks and 'holy geez!' comments from our friends and family and we just shrugged them off.
Even now at 13 months he regularly goes to bed before 7 and I actually *hate* putting him to bed much later than that (like, I'd never put him to bed after 8 unless something really important was going on).

@Andrea: really?!?!? Someone called you selfish? That's just absurd. I don't think most people understand baby sleep and how much sleep babies and children actually need. It always baffles me a little when I hear about babies with super late bedtimes.
I was staying at my sister's house with my LO one weekend back in November. LO went to bed at 6-ish. My sister's neighbours came over with their children and there was a 5-month old, a 4 year old and a 6 year old who all went to bed later than me (10:30!). Yeesh.

we tried setting our 6 month old's bedtime for 7:30/8 pm and it was horrible. he didn't fall asleep peacefully, he didn't sttn and he didn't nap well during the day. he was overtired, plain and simple. he actually made it pretty clear to us when he NEEDS to go to sleep and we follow that.
and i don't mind admitting that the few hours between his bedtime and mine are sooo nice to unwind and have some downtime!

Yes, its mostly relatives who act super shocked when I tell them his bedtime. Most of my mommy friends, who are sleep sticklers all understand though.

I get this all the time, irl. People always ask what I did to make them go to sleep early or how I got so lucky; I just tell them my kids' natural cycle is early to be dand early to wake! Not a lot I can do about it.

I thought I was weird for my lo having a later bedtime- 8:20. @Andrea: I feel selfish for putting her down late because then she sleeps in, which gives me "me " time in the morning. I love spending my days with lo but I cherish that hour I have to myself!

My LO used to sleep at 6, and everyone thought I was crazy for putting him down so early. His bedtime has since changed, but I still get requests from the grandparents for me to extend his bedtime to past 9. They want more time to play with him. Oye.

Totally normal! LO#1 requires LOTS of zzzzs and people (including relatives) think we are crazy-pants for his early bedtime. He used to be asleep by 6:30 every night, now that he is older we pushedit back to 7at the latest!
He sleeps better and longer with his early bedtime.

On my side of the family, my nieces have gone to bed by 7 forever and early bedtimes are a given. Inlaws think I'm nuts, pretty sure, and I'm anticipating hundreds of "why can't you just keep him up later" arguments in our future.

Me! Everyone (even ppl w/kids) seem amazed when they hear my LO goes down around 6-630PM. They also seem weirded out that a one-year-old sleeps for 12-14 hours at night.

olive is asleep by 7:30 at the latest, as was charlie until he was a little bit older. i still put olive down within 4 hours of when she woke up from her last nap, so bedtime varies a little every night.
it's actually awesome because i can put olive down and go out, so my friends think it's great!

LO sleeps at 7:30 these days but her bedtime was 8:30-9 for the longest time and my friends with kids made me feel awful because it was so late!

Yeah, some people think it's weird, especially the grandparents. But the IRL friends' kids usually have bedtimes at 8pm, so the 7pm bedtime X has isn't so weird. The people that have kids get it, the people that don't have kids don't get it.

Yep...we just pushed it to 7:30 here, cause of the sun, but he's reading, now, so he reads in bed until the sun goes down. He's always been 7 pm and other parents I've talked to are always amazed at it, lol.

Our LO goes to bed between 6:30 and 7 and we hear comments from family allllllllll the time! They just don't seem to understand she sleeps better with more sleep. Every time DD has a tougher night their response is "she goes to bed too early and sleeps too much. Keep her up she's learning when she's awake." DH and I were also awful sleepers and cried alot as babies according to our parents. Maybe we were overtired because apparently both sides have a whole lot of misconceptions about baby sleep!

When she was younger (newborn - 3 months) she went to bed late! Like 10-midnight and I couldn't do anything about it. Now at 4 months she's in bed by 7, sometimes 630. She can't make it any longer! Other mommy friends babies go to bed at around the same time.

She's 8 months old currently and she goes to bed at 6:45-7. It was 5:45-6 before teh time changed. People do think it's weird because most people I know put their kids to bed anywhere between 8/9 and 12/1 but my LO is cranky and ready for bed early. I usually get asked how I can get up so early with her and then I get even more amazed looks when I tell them she sleeps for 13 hours straight.
@scg00387: We've gotten the "why can't you just keep him up later" arguments a few times when people invite us out to eat or something. But honestly, if we kept her up later, she'd be a screaming mess. We could probably do 7:30 without it getting too bad but past that and it wouldn't have even been worth it to go anywhere.

Yup, I'm sure the summer will be crazy, too. M is asleep by 7 each night while there are still kids in the neighborhood running around, playing on the swings. I get home from work at 5 and am lucky to spend 10 minutes outside with the other moms before I have to run off to make dinner, get her fed, bathed, changed and to bed!!

yes!! everyone is always telling me she goes to bed way to early (7ish) and they think its crazy. anytime she has a rough night, they say just to keep her up later and she will sleep longer and better (ha!). it really bugs me, because that is just what time my LO gets very sleepy and goes to bed for the night, I do not force her to, and i think it would be selfish of me to keep her up for the sake of us being able to go out and stay out later. does it suck sometimes that we cant really go anywhere past 6pm? yes, but she is a baby and needs her sleep and sleeps better when she goes to bed early!

I'm one of the people that's impressed with your early bedtimes. LO is 11 weeks and despite weeks of trying to move bedtime earlier (thanks daylight savings) she still goes down between 9:30&10. She sleeps in until 9 am which allows me to shower, but I'd rather her go to bed early so DH and I can have grown up time.
Cherish the early bedtime ladies. Haters gonna hate.

He's been going to bed at 7 since he was 4 months old (and only recently started going to bed at 7:30 on occasion). Mostly family (MIL) says it's "so" early. But, most of my friends IRL have babies that go to bed at 7/7:30.
If I ever put my son down at 5:30 no one I know IRL would understand!
I'm totally expecting this baby to go to sleep early.
