Do you stick it in your suitcase and check the suitcase it? Or do you just check the Bjorn in without putting it in a bag..?

It wouldn't fit in my suitcase! I'd have to check it.

Every airline we flew with considered it a "baby item" and so they checked it for free along with our car seat (delta & southwest both did this)

We stuck it in our suitcase and checked that.

I checked the bjorn inside our large suitcase. Last trip we bought a pack and play at the destination and they checked it with our luggage but as a free baby item. I think it depends on the airline and even the person you get.

We just checked it on its own and it counted as the baby's one allotted piece of luggage (is this what ppl mean by a free baby item?). Once we needed to use another bag as the baby's luggage so we were allowed to take it as a carry-on. It was a pain to schlep it but it was a direct flight so we sucked it up.
I don't think it would fit in any of our suitcases, though I haven't tried.
