Does anyone have the IKEA Hemnes shoe cabinet? I just discovered this and it is such a perfect solution for our garage/kitchen crazy shoe disaster zone. Wondering if it's good quality and seems like it would hold up for a while?

We have one and it's held up for several years - although I generally keep a bunch of shoes out and mainly use it for seasonal shoe storage...

I have it and I really like it! It's held up well so far after a year of daily use. Just know that it doesn't come with the screws to attach it to the wall, so we had to go out and get screws/dry wall anchors to install it. Also, I'd measure how high your baseboard is. Ours is a little taller than what is standard, and it keeps the bottom from being flush against the wall and not quite as sturdy as I would like. Not a big deal since we're in an apartment and it's only for a few years, but it would annoy me if it were in my house.

@swurlygurl: We have two of the white tall ones side by side in our entry hallway--we love them! Keeps all of our shoes off the floor and it's cute and narrow entry decor. Ours are kind of like this (but all white).

@Anagram: That's really the one I want (for the drawer!) but we have a stupid light switch in the way
@tinyperson: @Aria: Thanks!! I'm glad to hear you don't hate it. Getting this area under control would make our house feel *so* much cleaner. Shoes are so annoying...

We've had one for about 5 years now and it's held up great, even with a move after the first year/getting re-mounted

We have the tall black one and a year of daily use it still looks like new.

@swurlygurl: We have this one and also the one Anagram displayed in the black color. It has held up well through the years, (almost 4 years now). We get lots of nice comments and inquiries about them from guests.

This is probably a dumb question..How do these work/hold up in areas with snow (or rain)? Do you still have to leave them out to dry - in which case they wouldn't get put away? Our entry is all shoes and rock salt right now, ugh.

@sorrycharlie: oh, I'm not sure. We live in a condo building, so by the time we are at our front door, all the snow/wet is gone. On the occasion we go in and out our patio door, we leave those shoes by the back door until they are dry. But we always put shoes away before guests come, so it still cleans up our entry nicely.

@sorrycharlie: Ugh, I hear your about the stupid salt. Our garage comes right into our kitchen with wood floors - impossible to keep the floors clean, salty mess everywhere
grapefruit / 4442 posts
@sorrycharlie: you would have to dry your shoes before you put them in the drawers. The wood would get warped form the moisture.
I was thinking of getting this bench to hold wet shoes:
TJUSIG
Bench with shoe storage, black

@bunnylove08: Hmmm... I wonder if I would like something like that better! Where is that one from?

@swurlygurl: ikea! TJUSIG Bench with shoe storage, black
I thought it would be a good option since its a bench and shoe storage. They also have one with out the bench part

Question - how does everyone anchor theirs to the wall? Ours just pulled away so we need to try something else.

I have one and love it, so many uses. I actually used mine as bath towel storage in our last apartment. Rolled them up and slid them inside!

@LindsayInNY: We anchor ours because it's just not safe/steady not being anchored since it just "leans" against the wall for support using the two front legs.
We have one and we really enjoy/like it!

@Alivoo01: Ours was anchored and pulled away from the wall so now I have to figure out a better way to anchor it.

@LindsayInNY: Did you nail it to a stud or use a wall anchor?
bananas / 9229 posts
@Alivoo01: We used a wall anchor but we have old, pre-war, thin walls which I think is part of the problem.
