Just wanted to complain about my luck...
Every year my amazing mom makes this huge Thanksgiving dinner for all of us kids and my widower grandpa.
I feel bad this year because I have LO and I can't go over there to help set-up or cook.
So, I offered to bring drinks.....wine...juice...eggnog, specialty coffee...
I am good at bringing drinks & it's fun for me.
But, apparently that job is taken by my grandpa.
So, my mom signed me up for desserts; I hate that job because I am not creative at all & my family is super boring with dessert, so I feel like I got the lame job.
Luckily for us, were a "pre-prepped" dessert kind of family....but still!
I don't even know what to get...
We are 12 people....so I am thinking
Pumpkin pie,
Apple pie,
Cherry pie,
Pecan Pie,
Ice cream (for a la mode folks)
and cinnamon rolls? <<DH hates pie so this is for him and my younger brother.

I got signed up for bringing a side at both my moms (green bean casserole) AND my grandmothers (sweet potato pie) b/c I'm on such a restricted diet. Lucky me gets to not only make them BUT find a GOOD milk free, soy free, and wheat free recipe for them. *feel my joy*

DH signed me up to make a pie for his grandmother's, but it wasn't that bad. I never made one before by myself so I felt some pressure, but it was fine. I think the pies you listed sound great and will probably be too much (but I don't think that is a bad thing on thanksgiving
My mom asked me to bring wine. We aren't telling her I'm pregnant for a little while, so I get to pick out wine and try not to have people notice I'm not drinking it. I seriously don't mind but it is kind of funny.

Aww I'm sorry.. Desserts aren't always fun because it seems hard to please everyone.

@runsyellowlites: omgosh that's tough! I am on a restricted diet as well....No dairy what-so-ever...no soy..no nuts. So, I won't be eating a whole lot:/ And yes, the pies are entirely too much but you just don't know my dad or my brothers....They "graze" at the thanksgiving dinner and then really chow down on the dessert! They will keep going all night long;)
@Foodnerd81: hahaha, that is ironic! Maybe get a red wine on purpose so that you could drink grape juice and no one will know....be sneaky:) You guys aren't taking thanksgiving as an opp to tell about the pregnancy? (Congratulations, by the way!)

@TurtleDoves: It seems too soon to make a big announcement. If it was just going to be the immediate family, maybe, but I have a big family-- there will be 12 people there, I think-- and I'm only 1 month in, so I don't know. If someone called me out on it, I probably wouldn't try too hard to hide it.
I actually don't think people will notice what I'm drinking. The bonus of a big family is there is always a lot going on!

I love doing the desserts. I think it is the most fun part of the meal (besides the turkey)!

I'm in charge of dessert for ours too, but I love baking! I'm attempting my first homemade cherry pie, complete with lattice top. I'm doing that and pumpkin pie along with vanilla ice cream.

@mrsmenow: got any creative ideas? I kinda thought about making puppy chow haha but I think that's too Christmas-y

@TurtleDoves: The edges look a little janky, but it turned out okay. lol. I was going to be cutesy and do a solid top with little hearts cut out of the top but I thought they might make fun of me.

this is my favorite dessert to make for Thanksgiving. It tastes so good and is so easy to make. I will be making this and Reese's Pieces Pie. It is just DH and our kids and nobody really wanted a traditional pie this year so I cut those.
