DH and I both like the name Imogen. It means "maiden" and is of Celtic origin. But we already have a daughter named Genevieve and I'm afraid the "gen" sound is too similar with both names. (Fwiw, we won't be shortening Genevieve's name to Gen.) What do you think? Vote below for whether you like it & whether we should avoid using it.

If you won't shorten Genevieve, does that also mean you won't shorten Imogen? I work at a girl's school in Australia and in year 7 there are 8 Imogens!! Most of them go by Immy which I think is super cute! I'm not sure I love the full name that much, but I love Immy. If you are worried about the sound of Imogen and Genevieve together, what about Eloise? I feel like Eloise and Imogen are very similar names.

I've never heard that name so I'm slowly warming up to it! I like it. It does seem very different from Genevieve in style to me though.

I LOVE Imogen, and always thought that Ginny would be a cute nickname. The only reason I didn't consider Imogen for our DD is that it rhymes with our last name in a really obvious way.
@ScarletBegonia: I think that Eloise and Imogen have similar feels as well- since I couldn't use Imogen for LO, we ended up using Eloise, and we love it!

Although YOU won't shorten Genevieve's name, I'm sure others will Esp once she hits school years. I think the names are too similar

Genevieve is a pretty name. Imogen is a cool name. The names are not on the same par IMO. The double "gen" is not a problem.
I went to school with a Genevieve and we didn't shorten her name. We called everyone based on the teacher's roster, which was dictated by the parent. The Genevieve I knew aways introduced herself by her full name.

It's not my style, but I do think it sounds great with Genevieve! I don't think it sounds too similar at all.

I think they sound nice together. I pronounce Imogen with a gin ending so they don't sound too close to me. I love them both!

I've thought it was cute ever since she chose it for her LO! It's my friend's middle name, and I think it's pretty classic.

Love it and haven't heard it before I've actually been looking for a unique middle name for a girl and this fits perfect.

I also am used to thinking of it as Imogene (with a longer "E" sound). I don't see any compatibility problem at all with Genevieve!

I love both and I love them together! I have also heard of Genevieve being shortened to "Vieve" which I thought was nice.
