Started with rice cereal then tried bananas. Can't decide what to try next....prunes? Peas? Apples?
What did you feed your LO?

We started with veggies and then fruits because they say you should do sweet fruits last because if they have those first they won't want the veggies.
But I have a friend who did that too and her daughter won't eat fruit. So really I don't think it matters

I did veggies before fruit. She still doesn't like fruit yet!

We started with avocado, then squash and sweet potatoes. I didn't bother waiting 3-4 days before introducing anything new and started mixing fruits and veggies pretty early.

We haven't started solids yet. I'm waiting till 6 months. But our doctor said to start with vegetables and then move to fruit. We are going to start with golden veggies first like pumpkin, sweet potato, squash and then on to green beans.

Interesting about starting with veggies first! I think we'll try sweet potato or peas this week.

Sweet potatoes, butternut squash (it is in season finally!!).
I waited a bit with peas, they're pretty strong tasting and I forgot about them!

We started with sweet potatoes, though i did mash banana in with her cereal. I tried giving her some pear because she hadn't pooped in a day, and she hated it! She kept gagging in disgust. I think i am going to try peas or avocado (technically a fruit) next.

it honestly doesn't matter that much! i'm working on a post about modified baby led weaning/purees now!
fruits or veggies first doesn't matter. but some good first foods are sweet potato, squash, avocado, banana, apples, pears, peas....

I'm hoping to convince my husband to NOT start with rice cereal. I hope to start with sweet potatoes. The reason being I've read that avocado and sweet potatoes are good to start out with. I figured I like the taste of sweet potatoes more than avocado so it might be good to be the first solid she ever eats!
@Mrs. Bee: oooh very interested! I'm uncomfortable with a full on BLW so I'm going with purees. But I have thought that I Would be comfortable say letting her suck on a red pepper

We started veggies (avocado) and rice cereal at the same time. Went through maybe a month of veggies (peas, string beans, broccoli, etc) then added fruits into the mix.

@regberadaisy: we totally skipped rice cereal. i think the reason it's often a first food is because no one is allergic to rice.

We started with oatmeal, and our first veggie was sweet potato. Our ped rec started with "P" veggies and fruits-peas, prunes, potatoes, pears..

I think it's really interesting all the varying advice that peds give, it's really all over the map.

LO didn't really like the rice cereal, so we moved onto bananas. I'm not sure on the order after that, but I know she had sweet potatoes and apples next. Her first veggie was green beans. Even though we introduced fruits and the sweeter purees first, green beans and carrots are 2 of her favs!

Wow, it's interesting to hear that some people start with avocados! I wouldn't have expected that because I would have thought that would be too "rich" (and fatty) for a baby... shows how much I know

Well first we gave a pear oatmeal puree, but she didn't like it. Then we gave a mango peach puree, and she didn't like it. Last night we gave her pears (not in a puree, just cut in small pieces) and mashed potatoes and she LOVED them. So maybe she isn't a puree girl?

@regberadaisy: Will he change his mind if he hears from your pediatrician that it's not necessary to start with rice cereal?
We haven't started solids yet. Two more weeks! We plan to start with avocado and sweet potato.

@mrsjazz: probably! We both really trust our ped's opinion. Buttt what if the ped said start with rice cereal?! hhaha.
All kidding aside he thinks rice cereal because everyone he has talked to said rice cereal who are all of the older generation!
If he's unwilling to let go of the rice cereal my compromise will be homemade brown rice cereal.

We've started with veggies, just because I happen to have a bunch to get rid of! We did oatmeal first, then squash, sweet potatoes, green beans, carrots, corn, and peas. This week/next week we'll do avocados, broccoli, and eggplant We'll start with fruits (apples, first) after next weekend, when we go apple picking.

I think we started with carrots. We did veg-fruit-veg-fruit for awhile. No rice cereal here, either.

Our first food was sweet potatoes. We never did rice alone, but we did add rice or oatmeal to her purees after awhile to thicken the consistency.
We also tried avocado early, but she hated it. Now she can't get enough guacamole.
Squash ended up being a favorite.
Now that we are done with purees, she loves any sort of fruit and we do struggle more with vegetables. I can't get her to eat green beans, but she still likes peas and carrots. I roasted butternut squash last night for the first time, so I hope it's a hit.

we started with rice cereal for about a week and a half and then went on to veggies for about a week and a half and just started introducing him to fruits. my ped said to go in that order, so i did. she didn't say why though.

@Mrs. Bee: can't wait to read your post!
I'm so curious to start some solids with LO but he's only 4m 2weeks -- however he's a big baby -- 17.5lbs and tall, so maybe he'll be ready soon. Love reading this thread!
Eta: squash sounds good, especially since it is in season!

@regberadaisy: tell DH that rice cereal can make your LO constipated!! I totally agree that giving rice cereal is an older generation thing. Every time I have seen my MIL in the past few months she has asked me if we are giving LO pablum (an o,d brand of rice cereal).

I plan to start with green beans and then try avocado, brown rice, oatmeal, sweet potato, carrots and then fruits. All of this will be homemade
I know people say it doesnt matter but I still dont want to feed her sweet fruits first. To me its just logical that the sweet foods wil be preferred especially if they are offered first

I chose avocados since she's a small baby and I wanted her to eat some good, healthy fats. Then we did sweet potato, pears, and squash. I try to stick with what's in season.

We started with avocado. We did bananas and peas shortly after that. We skipped rice cereal altogether.
