I was induced with cervidil which was enough to break my water naturally and start labor on my own. Eventually I had pit and an epidural but still it worked out really well not starting straight from pit.

I was induced using just about every option out there...cytotec (didn't work), foley balloon (had to do that to get my cervix to open enough to break my water...AFTER several unsuccessful attempts)...then they broke my water and I finally felt like I was in labor! Contractions got going pretty quickly. But they started me on pitocin at some point, too. If they break your water and contractions don't start within a certain amount of time, will they start you on pitocin and are you okay with that?

I haven't had that experience, but during my last pregnancy my doctor was going to break my water to jumpstart labor on my due date but my water broke naturally a few days before that. She wanted to do it that way because I had a prior c-section and they couldn't do a pitocin induction. When my water broke naturally I went into labor immediately but was only dilated to a 1.5 eight hours later, so they ended up doing pitocin anyway.

@fussygal: I mean, it hurt a LOT more than natural contractions, but it led to me dilating and having a healthy vaginal birth so I really can't complain too much.

I had a Foley induction and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. I would choose cervidil over a Foley if I had to do it over. After they removed the Foley I was hopeful that we could avoid pitocin by just breaking my water, but baby was too high for AROM, so pitocin it was. I ended up with a csection. My cervix was not as favourable as yours though.

@fussygal: I was induced at 40w4d and was barely dilated...I think less than 1cm, maybe just a fingertip. I believe the foley gets you to 3 or 4cm, and after that they broke my water. BUT they tried to break it before, I just wasn't dilated enough...so maybe your 2cm will be enough for them to get in there!

I will agree w/ @ShootingStar that the foley isn't all that pleasant, but on the other hand it's way better than gritting your teeth while the doc tries and tries to break your water w/a knitting needle but just can't quite get in there. It's a weird sensation to have a balloon on the inside of your cervix pulling down!
