    I had my appointment this morning. All the tests are normal. She's getting some tests for DH, I have my Day 3 FSH and a pelvic ultrasound coming up and she's referring us to the Fertility Clinic. So nothing really new. We were talking about different wacky things that can happen and she said some women have a septum inbetween 2 uteruses! So that can cause grief and they would see it in an HSG, but some women don't find out until they are pregnant. She also said that with an HSG, they can insert a camera to look around. Wild...

    @Leialou: Good luck!!

    @sweetooth: Whoohoo for open tubes! One step closer!

    @Greenthumb. Yup, we can suffer through the TWW wait together. I will just do HPTs, although may request a progesterone test at 7 DPO. My progesterone was borderline during my one and only 7 DPO test (11.8) so I want to make sure I don't need supplements. I must admit I am getting a little nervous even though I know the procedure itself is a piece of cake. I hopefully will feel better after the ultrasound.

    @Sweetooth. Great news about your tubes being open. The HSG is not fun, but at least now it is over with. Will keep my fingers crossed re: the SA.

    @mk0180. Thanks for the well-wishes. Good luck to you too!

    @Leialou: I'm sorry for the nerves and uncomfortableness! But I'm glad it was fast with no issues afterward. Will have fingers crossed for you

    @sweetooth: I'm sorry your HSG was painful You always read stories about people who magically get pregnant after their HSGs because the dye clears little minor things out of the way... hopefully you will be one of those stories, and the pain will have been worth it!

    @Grace: I'm glad your tests were normal, although I'm sure that's frustrating to not have any definite answers. Hopefully the HSG will be more informative! How long did it take to get your results back? I have my cd21 bloodwork this Friday, and I know I'll be anxious to hear the results.

    @Sweettooth: I've heard the same thing about pregnancies after HSG's. Hopefully you're one of those!

    I have a little bit of the blues today. My good friend (who started TTC at the same time as me) just had her baby boy yesterday. Luckily (sort of) I moved away before she got pregnant, so I didn't have to deal with it in person, avoided the baby shower, etc., but she is so happy and just wants to share it/him with me. I'm doing my best to be a good friend, but I had a huge cry yesterday when her DH texted me that the baby was born. It is hard not to think of what I am still missing when she already has a baby! Thanks for listening!

    @GreenThumb: I'm sorry That's never fun! You're allowed to be sad about it though - it's perfectly natural to be! It's so frustrating to think what you would be doing now if things gone differently earlier.

    I was really sad last month when I realized it was past the day that would have been my due date when I first thought I was pregnant at the beginning of the year (obviously I wasn't - instead, AF just went on strike for a month). And last week I went to visit a friend who had just had her 2nd baby a few weeks before. I thought it was going to be awful to visit them, but it really wasn't - I loved holding that sweet little baby. I was a little bit sad when I left, but mostly I was happy to have visited and was just thankful she didn't ask me when I was going to have a baby already... as she has asked multiple times before!

    @sweetooth: Ouch :(. I'm glad your tubes are open, though. To answer your question about not doing a HSG for me until a few rounds of clomid - that was mostly my call. My big issue right now is that I'm not ovulating at all. The doctor also said I'm low risk for having blocked tubes. So it seemed like the procedure might be unnecessary for me at the moment.

    Here are my stats...
    @MrsCB
    Age: 34, DH: 28
    Location: Outside Boston, MA
    TTC: 3 months (cycle 2), 2 months NTNP
    Appointments:
    10/2: DH SA - poor guy, holding out for 4 days has been rough on him, haha

    Results: Got bloodwork back on my progesterone levels, and I did not ovulate this month. Still waiting on the million other tests they did.

    Plan: I'm on provera right now, once AF arrives I will go in for CD3 bloodwork (FSH, AMH, etc) and for a vaginal ultrasound to check out my ovaries and see if there appears to be cysts. After that I'll meet with dr. to discuss bloodwork and SA and based on the results will either start Clomid on the next cycle or jump to IUI. I'm guessing that I'll finally O around 11/24 :-/.

    @sweetooth: Really glad to hear that the HSG showed everything was clear!

    @Grace: Great news about your initial results! I know I always felt like every bit of information put us another step closer so it is great that you can move onto the next set of tests quickly.

    @GreenThumb: Oh hugs. Give yourself a huge pat on the back for being a good friend too. I know it's hard to try to be happy for other's babies. ....although, pretty soon it'll be you!! I totally think your IVF round is gonna work.

    @Leialou: I'm so excited for you! I hope you get your BFP soon
    @GreenThumb: I totally feel you on the being sad thing - don't feel bad about it, you're allowed to be sad that it isn't you (yet! it will be, go Jordan Catalano haha!)
    @Grace: yay for all your tests being normal. And that's crazy about the two uteruses (uteri?)
    @MrsCB: Hi neighbor!

    So I called my insurance company today and they said if you're under 35 you have to be trying for a year before IF treatments are covered. That would be April - blech. Anyone know how much progesterone (suppositories or pills) costs out of pocket?

  12. GreenThumb

    pear / 1986 posts

    @Rachel: That sucks about your insurance. Is that the case even if a Doc finds it medically necessary for you (even without trying for a year)? I'm not sure about the costs of the progesterone (meds are the only thing our insurance would actually cover part of), but I hope it isn't too bad.

    @Alie: @Grace: @Rachel: Thanks! I am always trying to be strong during this whole thing, but sometimes it just helps to cry it out!

  13. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

    @GreenThumb: I'm not sure - I'm sort of hoping that if they test my progesterone levels and they're low, they can get my insurance to cover it by just saying it's necessary to regulate my cycle (outside of trying to get pregnant). I guess I'll find out in a couple weeks when I have my appointment!

  14. sweetooth

    @grace: glad to hear your tests are normal so far. I can't imagine having a little camera inserted during the HSG. I didn't want them to hang out in there any longer than they had to!

    @grace, @raintreebee, @alie, @ambular1025, @mrscb, @greenthumb: thanks for the "woohoo" for my open tubes! Fingers crossed that's the only medical intervention I need!

    @greenthumb: cry through those blues - it's therapeutic! My good friend had her 4th child (!!!) back when I was at my lowest time in August. She miscarried and conceived during my year of no results. I still haven't brought myself to hold the baby or even see the baby. I feel like a bad friend, but she's been so understanding. (((hugs!))) Hopefully you're able to communicate with your friend and let her know that you may need some time.

    @mrscb: that makes sense, glad to hear that you're able to avoid spending $$ on unnecessary tests for you. Good luck with your bloodwork and ultrasound. I hope that you're able to figure out the ovulation thing soon!

    @rachel: I think that whole "trying for a year" thing is BS. I know I waited out the year, but I wish I could have embarked on all of this sooner. Good luck with figuring out what you can tackle and afford.

  15. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

    @Rachel: Hi *waves*

    I'm not sure if it would have a different cost, but the Provera I'm on, which is a progesterone, was about $5. And that's the full price, not a copay.

  16. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

    @Rachel: That's a good idea. And don't doctors have to work with the insurance companies all the time? I'm sure this has happened before and maybe they have some weasily way of getting around it.

  17. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

    @sweetooth: Haha! Did some googling on camera with hsg and my dr had it mixed up. She was talking about a hysteroscopy which is what they do if they need confirmation on the hsg. Thank goodness I'm getting referred to the specialist!

  18. raintreebee

    pear / 1531 posts

    @grace: Congrats on the clear tests!

    @greenthumb: It is perfectly acceptable to react the way you did. I never know how I am going to react to announcements and births. Sometimes I am perfectly okay and happy, other times I am a mess. In general, I have a lot of trouble connecting to my fertile friends lately but have come to accept that I need to protect myself right now. I hope to not become a bitter old woman though!

    @Rachel: My insurance had a similar rule, but we were able to get around it once they found something wrong. Of course, those with unexplained issues are not that "lucky."

    Btw, there is an interesting article in the journal today on new advances in IVF. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443862604578030600949336888.html

    @raintreebee: Thanks for the article! This really boosts my hope that my FET will have good results since my little embryos were only made/frozen in late June and my body is a whole lot healthier than my fresh cycle since I don't have ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome this time around. I really don't think RE's should be afraid to tell women they might have a better chance of success if they do FET, especially with OHSS. If I had understood that, I might not have gone through with the transfer for my fresh cycle. Certainly would have saved me some significant cash!!

    And thanks for the note about the friends thing, too :)!

    -lurker here, I've been diagnosed with infertility, but I don't think I can formally join you guys until I've been TTC for a year??-

    @GreenThumb: May I ask what OHSS is? I know FET is frozen embryo transfer, right?

    @Mrs. Jacks: Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!!

    @ChuckNorris: So sorry to hear about your diagnosis. That sucks. I definitely don't wish it on anyone. But, of course you can join us! No rules here, just support!

    Yes, FET is frozen embryo transfer. Mine is scheduled for Thursday - so excited! OHSS is ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome. I developed it when I was taking medication to stimulate egg production for IVF. It is actually fairly common, but only sometimes serious if you develop a severe form. Mine wasn't too serious, but I did have high estrogen levels, too, and I do think it impacted my success the first time around. Since I'm not a medical person, here some more information: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0004549/

    @GreenThumb: Oh my gosh, Thursday is going to be a HUGE day! Fingers are soooo crossed for you, I'm sending you majoooor baby dust! You'll be in my prayers this week =) So FET is essentially the same thing as IVF, without the egg retrieval part of it? How long do they let the embryo grow before frozen, is it like a 5 day embie? Sorry for all the questions... It's such a huge world that I know like nothing about. I'm sorry about your OHSS! That must have been no fun... Thursday is also my follow-up with my RE (at 4 PM PST), what time is your FET scheduled for?

    @ChuckNorris: Sorry to hear that you have fertility issues. This thread is great for support. Like @greenthumb said, no rules. You can join us, or just read/visit for information. Good luck at your follow-up appointment with the RE. I had my first RE appointment last Thursday and have been working through all of the testing. I have to wait until November for my follow up...ugh!

    @Leialou Well, I'm writing this from my phone while lying down in the clinic room post IUI, so I guess I've officially joined you! The procedure was so surprisingly easy, I had pretty much zero discomfort. The only bad thing that happened was that I woke up at 3:45 am, completely convinced I'd already ovulated and that we had missed our window. I was so upset I couldn't go back to sleep and def was crying on and off, just generally freaking out until the PA finally reassured me that she thought I was ovulating this morning. Ugh, I wish I hadn't freaked out like that, such a high level of stress cannot be a good environment to conceive in

    @spaniellove: I finally know when my next appointment is! Two weeks from today - October 16.

    My husband had his SA this morning so we'll know the results by then. I am just crossing my fingers at this point that my doctor actually has a plan of action instead of just sending me for more blood work. Last time I saw him, he just said "wait till CD23 and get a blood draw." I'm going to be so upset if I wait all this time for another appointment (and pay for another appointment!) just to be told I need to do more labs. Can't he just call me to say that?!

    How's everyone else holding up?

  32. Mrs. Pickle

    @Trailmix. So sorry you were stressed last night but the important thing is the PA's view that it was perfectly timed. I definitely would not worry about the stress. Studies show that levels of stress don't make a difference for IVF outcomes. Fingers crossed for you and Leialou! I will be joining you both soon, hopefully. I too have had similar freakouts. Of course, I have forgotten to take my temperature the past two days and Clomid screwed up my temps before that so I will have no idea if the timing was right. I am so mad at myself!

    @Chucknorris. Welcome aboard!

    pear / 1986 posts

    @Trailmix: I'm so happy that the IUI went well. Sorry to hear about your tough night last night, but as @Raintreebee said, try not to stress about the stress :)! I had a freak out myself on Sunday and was worried that I was spotting and going to get AF before the transfer.

    @ChuckNorris: You got it about the FET vs. fresh IVF. Hope your follow-up goes really well. Thanks for the well wishes, too! I'm scheduled for 1:30 PM central time. Can't get here soon enough!

    @twodoghouse: Hoping your doc gives you some good info/direction at the next appointment. Waiting is such a tough part of all of this.

    As for me, I got really sick this morning from the antibiotics I have to take before the embryo transfer. Not fun. Guess I didn't have a big enough breakfast. So home on the couch watching Gossip Girl on Netflix for me today.

    @sweetooth: November! My goodness, that's a long time! Well, I hope October flies by you. The testing is all SO overwhelming isn't it? I feel like my house is covered in lab slips right now. Hahah.
    @Leialou: It's no fun, but at least we have each other =) @Grace: Thanks for welcoming me! I feel better now =) @Trailmix: I'm so sorry about your freak out this morning, but congrats on your IUI!!!! =) Fingers crossed for a speedy TWW!!!!! =)
    @twodoghouse: Good luck in your appointment... Maybe bring a backup list of questions just in case he does tell you to get more lab work, so you can get your moneys worth! @raintreebee: I have forgotten to temp several time the last two cycles!! I am seriously like, really body? We have been doing this for 9 months now. You really don't have the hang of it by now?? LOL. Thanks for the welcoming!
    @GreenThumb: I'm so sorry that you got sick =(((( No good! What antibiotics are you on? I just finished my first year in health care and I got all kinds of sick so I've been on antibiotics THREE times this year. Ugh, they make me all messed up... Stomach and yeast infections, ugh! Okay I totally put a reminder in my phone about your transfer...Sooo excited for you! What's the prep for a transfer, does it occur on like CD14? Do you still take similar meds to the retrieval?

    @MrsCB: I'm so sorry to hear your news. I hope you and your doc can work on a plan to kick that PCOS in the butt. I know how much it sucks to get news like that in the middle of the day. We're here if you need us. *HUGS*

    @Spaniellove: I'm on Season 2. I watched Season 1 on TV, but somehow got out of the habit pretty early on. I couldn't believe when I checked Netflix and there were over 100 episodes available - through the 2011 season! It is so what I needed today!

    @ChuckNorris: I'm on Doxycycline twice a day for four days (well, 3.5 since this morning's incident). Antibiotics are so tough on the system! It sucks that you had to go through tree doses. But, I guess they do their job, right? In addition to the Doxy, I'm on progesterone and estrogen since with a medicated FET you don't go through the normal ovulation cycle. The estrogen is in patch form (although there are pills and injections, too) and the progesterone is 2 injections in the bum a day - ouch! DH is great at giving me all my injections. I've only had to do one myself (Lupron in the abdomen - super small needle like for insulin) during all our treatments. I've been spending a lot of time sitting on a heating pad to help my sore behind. The bummer about both of these meds is that they will continue for 11-12 weeks if I am pregnant. That's a lot of shots and patches! Oh, and since the embryos will be 6 days old (they were frozen after 5 days and day 6 will be thaw day - Thursday) when they are transferred, it is technically on CD24 for me. It is sort of an arbitrary cycle since there is no ovulation. They are really looking for the uterus lining to be of adequate thickness for maximum implantation. Hope that wasn't info overload (heehee)! Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts on Thursday. That is sooo nice of you!!
