My guys are about $1k per room.

We are building a house and to paint just the trim and doors was $5000.

In our area, we were quoted 5k for just our 2 bedroom condo. Sooo.....15k doesn't seem expensive to me. You can always paint some rooms yourself to save money (maybe the bedrooms).

Painting is expensive. That seems reasonable to me, given the size of your house and the extras you are asking for.

Oh.my.word. We painted our entire house on our own, and it was less than $700. I would never ever pay that, but I'm all for DIY.

The trim and door are what are so expensive. Walls are quick and much cheaper but the trim takes for ever. So no, that doesn't but sound far from what I'd expect. I'd shop around quotes but it is unlikely to be significantly cheaper. (Oh ceilings are expensive too!)

We bought a 1700 sq ft house and had all the walls painted,as well as the baseboards and it cost 2600. We got a discount because it was a friend of my brother. The other quote we got was 3500. We have 10 ft ceilings, and it needed some texture repair on the rounded corners. We would've had the door frames, window sills painted too,but it was going to cost way more because of all the detail work.

Yikes. I guess this makes me feel better about how much time we are spending painting! We have a two story foyer that's fully wallpapered. I am pushing for pros and DH thinks we can rent scaffolding!

Sounds about right. We paid over 2k for painting just 1 side of the house and the tiny details in the window frames. That didn't include the paint. According to others, we got a "deal", I'm not convinced, but we were desperate to get it done already.

We did interior walls of a 2000 sq. ft. house ranch home with high ceilings and just touch-up paint on baseboards and doors of really obvious marks and scuffs for $4800. If you're including all the trim and doors AND the ceiling, that sounds about right.

We hired painters to paint our home when we moved...what I learned is that rolling the paint on isn't where the work is...it's in the prep of the walls, the edging and the trim work, especially around the windows and floors.

Also, depending on your area, you'll pay a premium just for labor.

@aprild: are there rooms youcould do yourselves after moving in- if you are looking to save? If you can afford it, though, it would be so lovely to just move in and have t already nicely painted. I feel like we will be painting our house ourselves forever.

Wow that's a lot! I think my parents paid about $5000 to paint five rooms. It might be more expensive if there's other work involved (taking down wallpaper, leveling ceilings that are not smooth enough). Or maybe the extra cost is because there's going to be a big crew. If you can put up with a slower pace, maybe you can get a cheaper rate for one or two painters doing one room at a time.

@aprild: If you think it's too expensive, ask them what you can get done for a price that you are willing to pay. Maybe they are open to negotiate.

@aprild: You might want to ask him what type of paint he uses and also see if he has any reviews from those that have used him for painting. I would be worried about the quality, given that he is so inexpensive, compared to the other quote you have. I think the quote you have sounds reasonable (albeit a lot of $$), given our experiences painting our house.

Wowza! Why is painting so expensive?! We painted most of our house as it is way cheaper and we do a better job in my option. We've only hired it out for two area's that are very tall and we wouldn't be able to reach ourselves.

I would not hire the handyman to do it - you get what you pay for. You might want to look into how much it would cost to redo baseboards and doors completely. It may cost more but not horrendously more.
