A trip to Hawaii?
It includes staying in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo on the beach in Maui (full kitchen).
Airfare for two.
And a rental car.
(We are splitting the cost with another couple so it is about $1850 each couple).
Trip is end of July.
Think I could do it for cheaper or does this sound pretty good?

That sounds like a sweet deal to me. When DH & I went, our airfare alone was close to $800 per person! I would book that quickly!

I think that sounds really great!! I always imagined trips to Hawaii being at least 3k+!! I am sooo jealous. You should have invited us to go with you

I do think it depends where you are coming from-- air fare would be more from the east coast than the west, but it still sounds like a really good deal to me. From the east coast, I would expect to pay about that much for airfare.

We are flying from Seattle. Airfare from here to Hawaii is pretty reasonable.
I should add that it definitely isn't a luxury resort...just a simple condominium style hotel. We wanted something like this so we could cook our own food and save $.
Just talked to the travel lady and turns out it is across the street from the beach.

It is through Costco travel and I usually trust Costco to have the lowest prices but I just thought I would run it by you all!
Wanted to make sure there wasn't a hidden secret I didn't know about.

I think it sounds good! We've been looking at tickets from Hawaii to Georgia for months and the cheapest I've seen is $800+ each.

Sounds good to me! Flights from LA in Summer have been around $500-$600!

I don't know. Flights to Maui from Seattle are usually pretty cheap, and July is not peak time. I've seen flights as low as $179 per person- do you have an Alaska Airlines card? That's a good flight to use the $99 companion fare on. We went in June a few years ago, booked a hotel (on the beach, w/kitchenette) plus rental car for like $800 total. I don't think rates could have possibly gone up that much in the last two years (I work in a hotel, rates bump up maybe 10-20 per year).
I say, shop around. You could probably find a cheaper condo even on VRBO, or look on Expedia for hotel + rental car deals. You could even book like, the rental car through Costco but I think you'd be doing yourself a favor by shopping around.

Ps, Alaska Airlines has Hawaii sales ALL the time... I would sign up for their emails and wait for one to come up.

I've never found Costco travel to be the best deal on pricing, but it's never totally out of line either.
That seems a little pricey to me because I'm assuming the flights to be $300 each so each night + car is $240. You can stay in a pretty fancy resort for that much.
Is it Kaanapali or Wailea? Iirc, Kaanapali is nicer and a bit pricier.

I live in Seattle and I found prices to be really cheap to Hawaii for about $200 each way. I think it can go up from there during the peak time. I would assume July is peak time. So it might be a good deal as long as it's not 2-3 days. If it's 5-7 days, yeah, it's a great deal.
Actually, I'm going to Maui next week! Prices are really cheap right now.
I have been to Hawaii before and food and entertainment does add up but I think adding about $500-1000 for food and entertainment would be one great trip.

I am looking up airfare on multiple airlines and I can't find less than $600 a person. Where can I find these great deals I keep hearing of?
@sunny: it is kehei, which is close to wailea (south side of island)
What have you found to be cheaper than costco? I suck at booking travel stuff!!

Alaska has some great prices now, as does Hawaiian. I saw prices as low as $160 each way. I also know of a condo style place that is all renovated, 2 bed/2 bath options for around $150 a night. Can't tell you rental car prices off the top of my head, but it sounds like a good deal to me!

I guess the prices are just high right now!? I found 2 seats on Hawaiian Air 8/8-8/13 for $525. It's a nonstop SEA to OGG.
On Alaska, it looks like the prices are ~$575 if you do a Thurs-Tues trip for all of July/August.
I guess based on those airfare prices $1800 is starting to look pretty good! Does that include tax as well?
In the past, I've found tickets (from SEA) to HNL for $275-350 and OGG for $300-350.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Alaska right now is having some great deals. But like I said, July might be peak time so the lowest you'll find might be $400+ round trip.
Oh, for 5 days, that's a good day. It's about $360 a night and that includes airfare and a car rental.

@sunny: yep, includes taxes and all hotel facility fees. I wonder if I should wait to book and see if prices go down....but I am terrified of them going up!!
My sister went to book a flight because she was considering meeting us down there and $600 was the cheapest she could find. Yikes!

sounds like a good deal. my DH, DS and I went last year, and we spent more than $1800. we paid for:
airfare for two (DS was free)
6 nights in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo
rental car for entire stay
