My DH picked up a bunch of amazing wine and I am wondering if it's okay to give to our LO main teacher . His teacher's assistant is actually our next door neighbor (Yay small towns) and I know she's on board for a bottle for an end of school year gift but unsure if it's a good idea for his class teacher . Give it with a cute note or go a gift card route instead?
And yes, I know end of school is 2 months away, I might have a small planning obsession,

I think it might depend on your area. I know a LOT of people in my family don't drink and would be very offended, and that's not uncommon around here. But I'm in the Bible Belt, big time.

@MrsSRS: I've asked my neighbor before and she said she didn't know, but I'll probably get her to ask the teacher school soon for me.
@Torchwood: I'm in a county that doesn't even have liquor stores. Gotta love the South.

It's technically illegal for teachers to have even closed bottles of alcohol on campus at a school. Not everyone cares or fusses about that, but if the teacher is a rule follower or the director is a strict one, you could get her in trouble, or make her uncomfortable.

I don't mind wine in theory, but I don't really care for reds, I can't finish a bottle alone and one bottle isn't enough to serve when we have another couple over...so for this reason, if I gift alcohol, I prefer to do a bottle of champagne or a bottle of some kind of liquor.

I'd feel uncomfortable giving a bottle of alcohol to anyone in a school/on school grounds, there are laws and signs all over the place about that here.

@Tanjowen: I would make sure there aren't school rules on this. My daughter's preschool specifically does not allow alcohol gifts and alcohol isn't allowed on school grounds at all.

I only give alcohol to someone I know enjoys whatever I'm considering gifting. Like @babybysurprise: said, you don't know what people are dealing with at home. They may be abstaining for many, many reasons.

I think it would be a wonderful gift, but if there are issues with regulations on school grounds then that's a major obstacle. Also, if you're in such a conservative/non-drinking area then isn't it reasonable to guess that the teacher might be a teetotaler?

I just gave my preschooler's teacher a bottle of wine last week since DS had a really rough morning and I had to drop him off while he was a mess. It broke my heart to leave him but I was already super late to work. He's had a few rough mornings here and there so I felt it was time to give her something to let her know I appreciate it. Thankfully, I knew she would be happy to receive that. I would have given wine to someone I didn't know would be ok with it.
