Ha...that was a super short and simple answer. DH and I have a glass of wine pretty much every night. I'm on a very low dose of Lexapro, and have been for about 6 months. Are you just starting? Thinking about going on it? On it already and are just wondering what you can and can't do?

Hi 2Peas! -- the latter. I am newly on it now and wondering if it's safe to drink. It says on the label not to but my doctor was like, yes, you can. Then I googled "serotonin syndrome" which was a side effect in the packet, and your serotonin can get too high on it if combined with another substance. (I'm on a low dose - 10mg). So now I'm anxious about it (which is why I'm on the pill...ha!) Thanks!!

I'm on Zoloft. I haven't had more than 2 glasses (probably fairly large) of wine in a night since on it. In fact I haven't been drunk since having kids because a hangover sounds horrible these days. I haven't had any issues with light drinking awhile on it.

Yes and yes. Didn't drink while on it and pregnant but have had a small glass of wine (like 3 or 4 ozs) most nights the past week now that I'm a month postpartum. I was on it before pregnancy too and drank much more than that in a sitting from time to time or a larger glass of wine with dinner more regularly with no issue. Alcohol + SSRI won't give you serotonin syndrome. Some people report stuff like dizziness and nausea, but if you are nervous about that just start small and see how you feel - like have a couple ounces of wine or half a beer. I feel like I shouldn't be pushing something that has a label against it but...sometimes you just need a glass of wine!

@Paddington10: I agree with @IRunForFun: start slow and move on from there. I reacted really strongly to only 10mg in the first week. I had horrible headaches, dry mouth, and overall felt crappy. I pushed through and I'm so glad I did. 6 months in and I feel so much better about my anxiety. I very much hope Lexapro works out for you because it has really been a life saver for me.
I started off slow...a glass of wine here and there, then I upped it to a glass more often, and now I'm back to my nightly glass of red wine with DH. It's lovely.

@Paddington10: I'm so glad you asked this as I've been wondering the same thing! Glad to hear I can enjoy a glass here and there.

@Paddington10: I've see. serotonin syndrome and they were on about 6 meds that all raise serotonin if that makes you feel any better

Yes. I'm on a low dose and I'm not a big drinker, though - usually a glass or two of wine is enough for me.

25 mg Zoloft and I have a few glasses a week! My psychiatrist advises against too much as you're starting to counteract the effects especially if you're on a low dose.
