My LO is an awesome sleeper but around 20-22 months she would randomly cry in the middle of the night. I don't know if it's developmental or related to teething. I think I read somewhere that they start to realize they have dreams around this age. I know she hit a rough patch with separation anxiety too. It was probably once a week for a few months and nothing we did really helped other than letting her work it out...she would always fall back asleep and us going in would only prolong the crying. She would fall back asleep faster if we just let her work it out. Then as suddenly as it started she just stopped crying out..

Could it maybe be night terrors?

I have no idea, and DD is younger than your LO, but I wonder if she's getting to the age of night terrors?

My son has been doing this ever since he was sleep trained at 4 months... and he's now 4 years old. There is the occasional night when he doesn't cry at all (but usually still wakes a few times, maybe) and that's usually when he's had a nap. But it's pretty guaranteed that if he hasn't had a nap that day, he'll wake screaming/crying around 9pm and midnight.

He always goes back to sleep on his own after a minute or two, so I stressed about this a LOT when he was 2ish, but now I just realize that some kids are just more restless sleepers than others, and it gets worse when they're overtired.

My daughter is 18 months and she wakes crying almost every night as well, but it's less frequent than my son.

We're having similar issues at 19 mo. Light night he screamed and cried, and DH and I took turns being in the room with him for 3 hrs before he would settle and go back to sleep. No advice, but plenty of "we're in this together."

My mom claims I woke up every night at 2am until I was 2 years old! They had to go in and rock me back to sleep.
