As if I'm not obsessed about sleep already, I'm fearing that my good sleeper is going to turn into a terrible sleeper once he starts teething! Can someone please reassure me that their kid slept fine, even during teething?!

I voted sometimes, some teeth were harder than others. DS2 hasn't started teething yet, so I might be saying something different pretty soon

My LO has only had a hard time in terms of teething with his canines that are coming in now. I didn't even know he was teething when he cut his first tooth.

The top teeth were a pain but otherwise they haven't caused us too much grief. Advil fixes all. She'll be fussy but never inconsolable

LO 1 slept like a champ before, during and after.
Things are different for LO 2 and teething bothers her more. She started waking up occasionally around 17 months. I give her Tylenol when she appears to be in pain.

My son is working on his 5th and 6th teeth now, and so far it hasn't affected his actual sleep - he's slept through the past 3 or 4 nights even though he's fussy and drooling up a storm during the day. Falling asleep has been a different story - up til about a week ago we had about 2 months of him going down awake and rolling/chattering himself to sleep within 5 mintues - in the past week he's cried/screamed for 5 to 10 minutes before passing out. Last night was the worst, 15 minutes of intermittent crying/whining/screaming, and just when I was at the point of going in to soothe him he passed out. I don't know (and I fear) where it will go from here, but so far no major dramas. He's 8.5 months BTW.
ETA first 4 teeth there was no change to his behaviour or sleep, but they all came in before 6 months.

LO was certainly cranky getting her molars and a few other teeth but always sleeps like a champ. She has also had teeth come in without us even knowing until they popped through.

Ours was pretty horrible with each tooth because she never got just one. More like 2-4 at a time.

@Grace: yikes! So would your LO wake up as the Advil was wearing off? IE did you have to give another dose in motn?

@birdofafeather: oh no! Just my fear! So how many wakeups are we talking, and what did it take to soothe your LO?

For the most part, DD handled teething like a champ. I hardly noticed when she was cutting new teeth. The last few sets of molars were a little harder, but she's always been a great sleeper.

Xander's 21 months, so doesn't have all his teeth yet, but for the most part, teething has been a breeze for us. I often don't even realize he's cutting teeth until they're in (including molars). So far the canines have been the worst, but hardly anything to complain about.

Some teeth have been an effing nightmare for LO and us, and others I didn't even realize were coming in until well after the fact - there seems to be no rhyme or reason, although her canines have been by far the worst.

@BabyTsMom: That was more rare. I found one dose at bedtime usually did the trick.

I need an "other" category. Both of my LOs are/were crap sleepers, but teething has been/was a total breeze. My older LO only had a minor fever a few times. So far my DD (who only has 2 teeth) hasn't seemed to have any problems.

LO gets two at a time, he's never gotten just one.
The first two (bottom middle) were nothing, he was only a bit fussy right after they broke through, maybe a few days? The next two (top middle) were a little rough. Lots of wake ups, lots of fussiness. The next two (either side of front teeth) were torture for all parties

@BabyTsMom: She gets a runny nose so that bugs her and then she would wake up screaming at least once a night but inconsolable so the wake up lasts hours.

@MrsTiz: worried. Those are the two my son is cutting now and his mood/sleep is just getting worse and worse every day. I'm desperate for them to pop. The first four were no big deal at all.

Other - DS1's sleep has always been kinda crappy. Teething has never affected it and actually teething in general wasn't bad.

I think it depends on the kid. DS sucked it up for all but his incisors. DD has no patience for ANY teething s$@&t and let us know, without hesitation, at every possible moment. Incisors were the worst, though.

The first 4 were a breeze. She had a rash and lots of droll, but she seemed comfortable. Then, the next four were beasts. There were barely any physical symptoms, but she had such a hard time!!

My son has always been a good sleeper, even while teething.
BUT, it definitely affects him during the day - he's insanely cranky, clingy, and biting & drooling over everything while he's teething. Especially right now because his molars are coming in.

The first teeth were rough and the canine/molars were rough, but everything else she did fine with, we only noticed when we saw, she showed no signs of them coming in!

Most of the teeth came in easily with a day or two of crankiness, but didn't mess with sleep. The more difficult teeth required tylenol or Advil during the day anyway, so I am sure that helped. The odd time we missed the teething signs during his awake time, he would have trouble falling asleep, but you could tell it was teething related so tylenol or Advil fixed the problem. It wasn't days of messed up sleep or anything.

Some were more difficult than others. Like molars. Sigh.
But then again I never had a good sleeper to begin with...
