I'm ogling all of these decor posts on pinterest and for every.single.pin. I think about ways my boys would destroy the set up etc.,
Do you have any decor for the holidays or otherwise? How do you do it with kiddos around?? Care to share any tips?

how old are your kids? I did some decorating and the kids know that they're not allowed to touch without permission.
mine are 4.5 years old and 2.75 years old.
my decorations are on our formal dining, front door and mantle/built ins, so for the most part, out of reach.
I avoided decorating when they were younger, so no advice if you have younger toddlers

Basically everything is high up / out of reach.

Like others, mostly I keep things high - the mantle, the tabletops, on top of our china cabinet, bookshelves, etc. I also put out some things that are for or by them and isn't off limits. Stuffed reindeers or teddies in wool hats, the LP nativity, some garland they help make. I find the tree is the most attractive nuisance, and once the novelty wears off, it's not bad. Mine will be 3 and 1 by Christmas.

I don't really get into decorating, other than an occasional vase of flowers, but we do have lots of wall art, and some of it is fine art. Most of it is too high for them to reach, but they both know they aren't allowed to touch it or play with toys like balls that could be thrown at it.

I didn't move my stuff when my son became mobile. It was important that he learned to operate around it. Not that any of the stuff that we had was precious or breakable, but I do make it a point that he has to be respectful in the house, especially of things that are not his toys.
As for holiday decor, one thing I love to do is to make a wrapped box tower. I save all the big shipping boxes and wrap them in bright paper and stack them like a tree. It looks great and it can be recycled when you're done!

I grew up (and plan to do the same with my own) that certain things are not for admiring with your hands.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: yes to this. I tell my kids they can only touch things with their eyes (especially in museums).

I am currently furnishing a whole house (just moved from tiny apartment) with a 2 yo running around so I deal with this every day. I don't avoid putting out decor or buying nice things, but I am a huge fan of Wayfair and TJ Maxx where I can get it for super cheap so even if DS throws my ceramic pumpkin and it shatters in a million pieces, it was only $4. I also focused more on buying nicer ceiling/wall lighting fixtures and cheaping out on things like couches, chairs and rugs that he can destroy. The decor that is within his reach so far he hasn't ruined (although he grabs at least one thing a day and brings it to me) but none of it is expensive or an heirloom, so I don't get all worked up over it.
