I would go with #2, but i don't know if i would go with that type of bed.

My toddler loves to climb and jump, and i'd probably worry that she'd try to fling herself off of the bed, despite the railing.

How old is she again? I know the bed isn't a real bunk bed, but the AAP suggests that kids shouldn't be in the top bunk if they are under the age of 6.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that first bed, they can be a little wobbly.

The second one looks sturdier.

I think I would wait a few years for a bed like that...my toddler is active!

@BabyBoecksMom: Have you thought about a floor bed? Maybe that is an option and when your LO is a few years older, using an option above?

@BabyBoecksMom: Oh, our crib converts to a toddler bed, then later a full size bed. But I don't plan on moving him to a toddler bed for awhile. I like him being contained. LOL

@BabyBoecksMom: Our LOs will be 22 months apart when #2 arrives in May... we're planning on keeping LO#1 in her convertible crib (as a crib, for now) and buying a 2nd crib for LO#2. This is so LO#1 wouldn't start sliding in the middle of the night, or going through the drawers under a loft bed, but also because I've been reading that some LOs feel like the baby is taking "their" bed and it's too much change in a short period of time (new bed, new baby taking the crib, etc.). Just some food for thought!

If I had to choose between the two, I would go for the 2nd bed.

@BabyBoecksMom: So I say buy the bed you want, keep it in a box until she is ready and just use the mattress on the floor until then. That way you're not doing 6 transitions and you can judge when she's ready for the high up bed.

Although like others, yikes, I think at 5 I would be willing to use something like that - when we put my DS in his full size bed at 3 he thought it was SOOOO high off the ground -

I would be too paranoid having a bed that high. The twin we got for DS is about a foot off of the ground.
