Help! I have a wedding to go to in June, and I don't really want to buy a new dress for it, but I also feel like I don't have a ton of options already in my closet that the exact same crowd hasn't seen me wear to a wedding before!
I have this dress that I got in the fall though, and I love it...but it has a white background. Is it off limits because it has so much white, or is it ok because it is also brightly coloured?

I vote too much white, sorry. Unless you wear a bright cardigan over the top.

I think it's totally fine, but you might get a couple side-eyes from more traditional folks. If you feel comfortable in it, go for it!
ETA: I agree that a bright cardigan would be helpful.

I think it would be okay. Definitely summer wedding attire. It's a very pretty dress!

@youboots: I am in your camp too! My SILs say it is fine, but I also felt that even wanting to post here to ask, I am kind of already answering my own question!

@woodentulip: it's totally about your comfort level. If you have the slightest paranoia that people are judging you won't enjoy yourself. The second dress is also super cute. Like a watercolor painting.

If you're in doubt, the second one is a better option....but I don't think either one looks the least bit bridal! I wouldn't think twice about it if I were the bride or a guest.

I'm pretty conservative on this topic, but I totally say YES! The bright, bold flowers makes it appropriate imo.

Silly me, I guess I've always thought that wearing ALL white was all that was off limits at a wedding. I like both dresses as reasonable choices, but maybe now I've shown myself to be an unreliable advisor.

Definitely! Wearing all white is a no-no, doesn't mean you can't wear any white. This has more color than white and in no way resembles a wedding dress, so I say go for it

I would be fine with you wearing either dress to my wedding, for what it's worth. I think they're both ok.

Depends on the type of wedding it is. I think the white is fine - no one is mistaking you for the bride. But then again, I really don't get what the big deal is about white and weddings, unless a guest is wearing a wedding dress and veil and trying to walk down the aisle.

In no way would anyone think that was drawing away from the bride, so I say go for it! Someone actually did wear an all white dress to my wedding (and it was lace) and that really bothered me but I wouldn't have even noticed that the dress in the picture above had a white background. Totally different thing.

I think either one is completely fine (then again, I couldn't have cared less what people showed up to my wedding wearing). If in doubt, I would go with whatever you are most comfortable with, so you don't have to worry about it...

@woodentulip: i was going to say yes when i saw the photo but when you added the "old school NE" piece, I am voting for something else. The second one you listed should be good in my mind. Or rent the runway sounds like fun!

I had almost the same thread a couple months back. Haha. The majority said it was too much white. Here it is for reference.
And my vote, especially because you said old school NE family, would be it's too much white.

@woodentulip: As someone from the NE, and who has attended the weddings of many friends from New England, I still think it's FINE. Weddings of "old school" New Englanders tend to be more casual than flashy NYC area weddings. It is not a white or cream dress, so you can totally wear it. Trust me.

I would wear it, I'd say totally fine. But if your a bit unsure then go with the second.
This last fall I wore a white dress that had black lace over it to my sisters wedding and nobody cared. White doesn't equal bridal in my opinion.

@woodentulip: I agree with most people, I wouldn't wear it. It's not that I thin there's too much white, but I know some people would, so why risk getting dirty looks.
I think the second dress is the way to go. Have fun!!

Yes it's fine. White background with a large print is wedding acceptable. I'm pretty traditional when it comes to wedding etiquette and I wouldn't hesitate to wear it.

I'd probably not wear it especially given what you said about old school conservative NE family. I think wearing that dress would be a definite faux pas there.
