B started the two-year-old program at preschool a few weeks ago. For the first few weeks we went into the classroom and picked the kids up when class was over. However, on Tuesday they told us at drop off that there was a new procedure where we would stay outside of the classroom and they would send the children out one by one. Is this normal?

I am super uncomfortable with this. Maybe it's because it's his first time away from me (other than with family) but I don't like not being able to talk to the teacher to see how my child's day went. He isn't to the point yet where he can verbally express himself well enough to tell me about his day. When I left on Tuesday he was crying. I wanted to know if he was okay the rest of the time. I wanted to know if he ate his snack and what activities he did for the day. A good friend of mine has her son in class and she didn't even know if he went to the bathroom or not (he was just recently potty trained).

Am I overreacting? Is this normal for preschool pickup? I emailed the school's director on Tuesday expressing my concerns and requesting a sheet that detailed my child's day if this procedure is going to stay in place but I haven't heard back.
