I have a quick chat w the teachers or assistant teachers at pickup everyday and I get emailed a daily report. I would def not be ok with this change!

This may be a safety related change to monitor leaving better or a change because too many kids struggled with the transition. That's reasonable. But it is completely ridiculous to not implement a way for parents and teachers to communicate! You are not THAT parent!

I don't think you're being unreasonable at all. I've always been able to go in and chat with his teachers about his day, and that's important to me. I want to know what he ate, how much he ate, how he's doing on the potty, etc etc.

I think the exit process is fine if they had some way for you to communicate with the teacher or staff. Without that, it does seem odd and I would also want there to be some kind of means for exchange.

I think it's an ok procedure, as long as it's possible to talk to the teachers after pickup is all done and the rush is over.

Ours is the same as @Andrea. If I need to ask questions I stay behind a bit or talk to the teachers in the morning at drop off.

@Ra: I wouldn't say that. I knew what the procedure was going into the program and was OK with it because DD is verbal enough to tell me about her day. I wouldn't be comfortable having no idea how things were going.

You are not being a pain. I wouldn't be ok with this set up at all. I go in to pick up my son and always talk to the teachers. They have a board with info about what they did that day and they tell me about his nap etc. I'd never be ok with him being sent out like a prisoner being released LOL.

@Ra: You are not "that" mom at all! My LO baby school wants us to do car drop off and pick ups because it makes transition smoother for everyone (1-2 yr old), BUT I get text messages during the day on his status, and I can communicate anytime via an online forum. It would be a fine procedure if they would make sure to communicate with you in another eay, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I would be frustrated too.

I think this is so weird! I don't even need a list or anything from the teacher-a good day comment suffices for me!

This is how it is for us too--we wait outside and the teachers call the kids out one by one. However, I always make sure to ask how his day was and how he did. I can't imagine you can't do that with his teachers? I just usually wait til all the kids have been picked up. We definitely don't get any sort of daily sheet or anything

Eta I think a few hours of preschool and full day care are very different--for the latter I would want more details about what he did over 8 hours especially if he goes every day. Preschool for a few hours a few times a week is different.

My LO is in a preschool program now (she's 3) and the teachers are only there during the school day (9-3) and then she stays in the aftercare program until I pick her up. I never get any indication about her day unless one of her teachers happens to be watching the aftercare kids because they don't do daily sheets. I wish I got a better idea about her day but it seems like this is what it will be like for school.

She can talk but she's not very reliable yet because she always says "yes" when I ask her if she ate her lunch or napped and I know it's not true!!

I don't think it is that weird, as long as you are given an opportunity to chat with teachers either before or after school. It sounds like you don't have that opportunity though, so I would also wonder about what exactly my kid is doing all day long. I think you are right to ask about it.

We aren't allowed in my sons room (age 1). It's too hard for them to keep them away from the door and make sure parents aren't stepping or bumping into kids. There is a half door and when we come a teacher brings us his bag and him. We can stand at the door and chat for a second about how the day went. At first j was a bit annoyed and wanted to see the room. But seeing a room full of babies and toys and teachers I get it that it's just too hard to have parents coming in and out.

I assume they have to send a teacher to the door with your child? Or as you greet your child can you flag a teacher over so you can have a quick update?

I didn't read pp's but I don't think it is a huge deal. I do think they should meet you at the door at least so you can ask how their day was briefly if they don't do daily sheets. Our preschools stops daily sheets at age 2. I just ask for a quick, how was his day? at pick up. Teachers are still teaching class and working in late care until 5:30, so I could see if they have to stop supervising children to have a long conversation with parents every day, this might be the reason for the curtailing the normal pick up.

I feel like they should at least greet you. But again, I don't think this is a big thing.

I actually wouldn't love that change either. I could be ok with it if allowed into the classroom in the mornings or at some point. But my daughter goes half days while most of the kids are full day kids so it's sort of different. (Eta like she would be one of only a few being sent out.) I guess the main thing would be if your son seems happy then I'd go with it. But no, I don't think you're necessarily being that mom! Communication between teachers and parents is important, so I hope they figure something out!
