Share your favorite cuts/styles for thin hair, or any products that help (either create volume or help grow hair!).
I had been using Collagen Peptides for awhile, quit, and just ordered some more because I have horrible breakage!
I've been sticking to an A-line bob for my cut.

Ugh me too. I had been faithfully taking biotin and using biotin/keratin shampoo but don't notice much of a difference 
I have dark hair and I need to go get highlights again to create the illusion of volume lol

Getting highlights/color helps me way more than anything else. I can tell such a tremendous difference. I would love to get color every 6-8 weeks for that reason alone, but I try to stretch it to 10-12 weeks for the cost!

@MrsADS: @graceandjoy: I’ve been thinking about getting highlights for that reason but wasn’t sure how much of a difference it would really make, and it’s so expensive! But my hair is fine and so blah.

@josina: This has been my inspo forever. I had it similar but just a straight a-line-ish bob. Just slacking to do it because a cut/color/perm would be astronomical. Lately I'd been toying with maybe coloring my own hair (which I have done before, long before kids) and then getting a cut/perm...

@graceandjoy: I love the beachy waves. I have naturally curly hair but it curls all goofy so I always straighten it - which doesn't help my hair's condition.
I just did read though (google) to perm first, then color, because it's more damaging the other way around?

@josina: Oo interesting! Anyway, I totally feel your pain. I don't like 90% of my own pictures mainly b/c my hair! I wear it up all the time b/c it pretty much only looks decent for 1 day after wash/blowdry...

@josina: I have thin, curly hair too. About six months ago I started sleeping with a satin pillowcase and using one of these microfiber towels after a shower:

The difference in my curls has been amazing. I'm not as frizzy and they are more uniform curls.
My friend is a hair stylist and she cuts my hair dry so she can make sure I get the best cut for my curls. I agree with other posters, color helps make my hair look like it has more volume.

@josina: Do your research on stylists before you commit to color! My stylist knows I only come in once a year (trying to make it twice but time flies...) so she knows how to color my hair so that I won't look horrible if I don't go in every 8 weeks. Color is time consuming, I usually spend at least 3 hours in the salon, sometimes longer (like when she did a purple ombre, that was 5 hours!).

@KT326: yes, this is why my stylist suggested balayage highlights for me, so they will look better as the grow up since I know i won’t maintain it well. This might be convincing me to try it too.

So, my hair is shoulder length and pretty straight- if I do it I just blow dry it a little straighter because the front has weird kinks around my hair line.
All the photos of balayage highlights seem to show women with loose waves. Will it still do the same thing, making it look more full, on straight hair? Thoughts?
Eta: like this- I like it but my hair doesn’t have this much wave.

@josina: I curl my hair instead of straighten to get some volume. My current methods include washing as night so I don’t have to blow dry. Then in the morning I curl it. I also take biotin daily. Lastly, I color my own hair because i don’t want to spend what it takes to maintain. So now highlights other than the darn silver.
I find curling to be less damaging than straightening. And not using heat to dry makes a huge difference.

@KT326: @Foodnerd81: Yep, I plan to do balayage... I love how it looks but mainly so I don't have to worry about upkeep as much! My friend is a stylist and is only charging $65 for the cut and color so not terribly expensive. Booked for tomorrow, super excited; I haven't had any sort of highlights in 20 years and haven't had a pro-color in 10.
@MamaG: I'll have to try washing at night, but usually I get such horrible kinks, etc, while I sleep that my hair is a disaster in the morning. Also why I have to wash it daily.
I do sometimes curl it with my straightener for loose waves like the ones pictured.

@josina: So exciting! And man that's "cheap" compared to where I am! And I agree; bayalage is amazing, mine never looked too funky as it grew out and 2 years later. I think I just need to do a color/cut for now because who has time for more stuff! You need to post pics!!!

Welp... its done! I like the color but not crazy about the cut. She went crazy with layers in the back, which is probably great for thin hair, but not in love with it.
Once the back grows back out, lol, I think I'll love it.
You can definitely tell how thin it is at the bottom of the left pic, so I like the new length, just not the back.

@josina: I like it! But I do see what you're seeing with the back. I have similar hair and find that most stylists over layer it. I have to ask for a blunt base with just a few layers. But I really like it!

I got balayage highlights! Honestly- I’m not sure how I feel. It’s a little more “done” than I think I wanted. In some lights I love it, in some I’m not sure. Plus obviously he curled it too so it’s hard to judge the cut. It’s definitely better and fuller looking, but I don’t know if it was worth the $$$.

That's how I wanted mine but I think I ended up more with highlights... Full disclosure, I couldn't get used to how bleached-out the highlights looked, so my step-daughter darkened them with box-dye ash blonde and put some browns back in to make it look more balayage. She did great, lol, I like it much better!
I'm wearing it with beachy waves and loving that much more also. I'm not very good at dealing with the short layers in the back yet.. UN-patiently waiting for them to grow out.

@josina: I do like that better! Subtle brown highlights must be hard! I really would like more beach waves but my hair just won’t do that. The curls I have now are a little too precioua for me or something. Yours are just right.

@Foodnerd81: Thanks, I just use my flat iron and twist it a bit to get the beachy waves. Haven't mastered the back yet though!
ETA: it does take some getting used to though! And I know what you're saying about the light... my home bathroom makes it look really orangy, but natural light its not that way.

@graceandjoy: lol, yeah. Her mom is a hairdresser so she's watched it a few times and took a class with her. She offered to do it originally and I thought I better let the professional, but I'll just let her do it next time!
