Maybe? I'm pretty spoiled by our in-home being in our subdivision, 0.3 miles away. But the other daycare we looked at was on the way for me, out of the way for DH. Probably not by 20 min, though....we did look at some that were out of the way, but didn't like them enough to heavily consider them

I'd probably look around, and if it was still the very best option, I'd get over it. I don't know why i have no issue with ~10 min but I cross the line at about 20

Ours is. I have issues with it. I like our daycare and think LO is well cared for. It is less expensive than daycares closer to our home, but it takes me about 30 min. to get home from daycare (during rush hour). The problem is that LO is usually ready for dinner and is screaming the whole way home, which stresses me out. Then I have to run in the door and hurry to find something to feed him! It wasn't a problem when he was younger and took bottles, but now that he is 16 mo, it has really become an issue. We are seeking another option at this point. But I do hate to leave our current daycare.

Yes. Ours our daycare is about 15-20 minutes away {in the opposite direction for DH and a giant u-turn for me}. The location isn't ideal, but the daycare is, so we make it work. A year in, it's not a big deal anymore.

@grizz: I drive out of the way to get to LOs daycare. Worth it!!!

I leave our house at about 6:40 a.m. and drop off LO a little before 7 a.m. I am at my desk by 7:30 a.m., I stop and get starbucks though, there's a drive through near my office.

Out of the way may be worth it if your gut tells you that this is the right place. My daycare is about a 5-min. drive from home on the way to work. If it were 10-15 min. in the other direction, I would probably have still picked it because it is THAT great. Over. 15 min., not sure. I'm definitely spoiled by the great daycare AND great location.

Ours is out of the way by about 15 minutes, and it is the opposite direction of my work. I do drop off and DH does pick up. The only time I hate it is when DH gets stuck at work and I have to pick him up. I commute about 40 minutes away and sometimes it can take me an hour and a half to get to daycare in the evening commute. Luckily my job is pretty flexible so I can leave early and make up the time later on those days.

I would do it if you don't have that long of a commute to begin with. Ours is on my way to/from work. There is one I liked but it's about 15 minutes out of the way without traffic, so I think a lot of days I'd be cutting it really close getting there on time.

Our daycare was out of the way (I know work for the company on whose campus the daycare is – FTW!!); it was about 10 minutes south of my old work (each way), and added an additional 15 minutes to my drive home. For us it was worth it because it was leagues nicer than every other daycare I looked at; there was no comparison so the drive was just a have-to-deal situation.

If you really like it more than the others, your peace of mind will be worth the additional commute. If the daycares are all pretty even…then it’s a tougher choice!!

I'm so spoiled. Ours is a 5 minute walk from our apartment, and takes me by a grocery store.
