There are two between my house and work that are being renovated into "town centers"

Everything but the anchor stores (target, macys, etc) have been closed for probably two years while they tore apart the insides.

The one on this side of town is doing very well. The one on the other side of town is on life support, which is probably being generous.

Nope! Our is very old but in the best part of town and constantly updating. It has an upscale 24 hour local grocer attached, a sundance theater, upscale shops and restaurants and is indoor and outdoor.

We have one that is dead - it is so sad. Great architecture, lots of character, cool fountains... but it was dated and a brand new shiny one went up like 2 miles away and killed it.

Then there's another dying one a little further from me - I have no idea what it's story is though.

Other than that, I think all shopping areas are doing great and thriving!

I heard that our local mall makes all its money during the holiday season and that is how it keeps operating. It is so dead the rest of the year.

We actually don't have a local mall. There is an outlet mall about 20 minutes away and it's doing really well because there are only 2 or 3 outlets in our state, the other being over an hour away.

The other "local" mall is the Mall of America and I don't know that it will ever die

We have several local malls. The two closest to me are doing really well. When I lived in Eastern KY, my advertising territory included a dying mall and it was so depressing to go there. It's still hanging on, but just barely. The other mall in that city is much more vibrant, better situated (downtown vs. outskirts), and has better stores.

I haven't noticed any that I frequently go to "dying." I do notice one that I randomly sometimes go to becoming a lot more "questionable" as far as the people who are "shopping" (I use that term loosely) there. I notice that more than malls getting empty. I used to work for a property management group (I think the largest... rhymes with thigh-mon, haha- yeah I got fired from that job) and it was interesting to see how it all works, the politics, and that they really do realize malls' reputations/shoppers/strengths etc. The mall i worked at was the "upscale" mall and they were smaller but made more $$ than any mall in that area. The huge mall nearby was massive and full/always busy, but, it had started to get more questionable patrons- more crime, violence, etc. The process in which they used to decide if stores would be allowed, the rules (my mall did not allow kiosks where people would walk up to you, etc- we actually only had 3 kiosks I think? whereas the other nearby had TONSSS) were just SO FASCINATING. Then I made the mistake of tweeting something about FAA kids at the mall and got fired. WHOOPS. I barely made the salary equivalent of minimum wage anyway, but it was a fun job.

ETA- I meant FFA, not FAA (no federal aviation of whatever- I tweeted about unsupervised Future Farmers of America kids taking over the mall. They all had matching jackets.)

Ours is lame...so lame. It's always been dying since I moved here 16 years ago. it needs a revamp or a tear down.

Nope. It's extremely busy, and becoming more and more high end. The other malls in the surrounding areas are suffering, though.

There's a dead one very close to my house. It was dying, and then we had a terrible flood and no one saw the point of investing to rebuild it since it was on the way out anyway. I wish they would just tear it down.

Thriving. It was dying at one point a few years back, but they were able to secure spots for Nordstrom and Target. That led to a huge change to make the mall more upscale. They are constantly expanding and adding new stores at an astounding rate. It also helps that the mall is right off of a major highway, and we are the drive through state with no sales tax.

Nope! My mall is the largest one (outside of some outlets) in the whole corner of my state. New stores always fill the vacant spaces within 6 months. I live across the street from it so weekends and holidays are awful for me because people drive hours to come to the mall...there are ao many out of towners that make the traffic terrible!

Nope, one of the two closest to me is just sort of a run of the mill mall, but it has two anchor stores, a movie theater, and it's always busy. The other one near me is huge, newly-remodeled, and they renamed it "Collection" instead of "Mall" because they're trying to cater to the $$$$ crowd. The one near my work is also huge and always busy.

ETA: the run of the mill one opened in the 1990's, so that one might not make it. The other two opened in the late 1960's.

My local mall is not dying, but rather alive.

The mall (PA folks, in the Exton area) I grew up going to is going down hill. At least from what I heard.

KOP mall which is one of the largest malls back home is certainly not dying. It's expanding! Which is great news!

The malls near me are on Michigan Avenue or right off of it. There's another mall in the burbs which is a great outdoor one. I really don't shop at any of them though since State Street has a vibrant discount retail scene going.

Growing up, there was a mall near my childhood home that slowly disappeared and went dead soon after a killing took place at an adjacent restaurant. It was the beginning of the end for that mall. The murderer got killed with Jeffrey Dahmer in prison.

Definitely dying. They tried to revitalize it with a remodel a couple years ago, and failed spectacularly. They did such a poor job on the remodel that there are holes in the floors, etc, and it looks terrible! That + empty storefronts, and I just don't even want to step foot in there.

I live in the land of malls, I can easily get to 3 within 20 mins and I dont know maybe 8 or 9 in an hour maybe more. Some do better than others but they are all still kicking clearly

Ours is alive and well! It was renovated and expanded 5 or so years ago. There is another smaller one that's just a few blocks away from the busy one that has been sort of dying, except for the Macys and movie theater, but they are building a huge outdoor mall that will connect the two malls. It's going to be nuts. They're putting in a costco and all kinds of shops and attractions.

Definitely not, crazy busy all the time.
