I think I've gotten better at detecting when my help is needed! But sometimes I'll miss the early warning signs, and then it will usually come up in conversation a while later...
Is your SO good at asking you for help?

My DH is way better at asking for help than me. With me, I still have trouble asking for help. It's one of the issues in our relationship. I'm getting better, but still need to learn how to ask for help.

@mrbee: are you bad at asking for help or bad at noticing when help is needed?
My husband will always ask me for help if he needs it. He tries to get most things done on his own. He will warn me if help is going to be needed, for the most part. We have worked through a problem we had for a while where we didn't understand why sometimes the other person wouldn't just jump when we said "help!" Now, we try to say, "Can you help me with something?" "Sure, can you give me 5 minutes?" Most of the time, that is okay. We realize when the other needs help immediately, though and will drop what we are doing to help.

Nope, and then he'll resent me for not helping and be all grumpy about it. I've had to tell him on multiple occasions that I'm not a mind reader and he should explicitly ask when he needs/wants help with something. He's getting better...

@mediagirl: I don't think I'm necessarily bad at either? Both are definitely things I've been working on improving though...

DH has no problem asking for help if he needs it, but is not good at noticing when help is needed. But that's because I'm not good at asking for help.

My DH is the king of asking for help! It grates on me a bit (probably because I'm so bad at it!!) - I often say that if DH is doing something then we're both doing it. "Will you go and get my hammer please, babe?" "Will you come and hold this measuring tape?" "Will you come and dry up these bits so I can fit more washing up on the drainer?" "Is there any washing up upstairs - will you go and fetch it?". Everything's a team effort!
