Does he go by his first name? Middle? Initials?
Good grief, DH is now saying he wants a son to be a jr. He has a pretty popular name but it's so not my style.

We don't have babies yet but my FIL is a Jr, husband the III. Each go by their middle name because of personal preference. Husband has said he despises his first name but that if we have a son, he wants him to be the IV. I don't get it but it's important to him so that is our plan. Men are bizarre creatures about some things.

I cringe at the thought of having a Jr. DH wants one and I can't tell if he's saying it just to piss me off at this point or he really wants one.

We will never have a Junior. DH was raised Jewish and his one request to me was that we do not name any babies after living relatives. I'm cool with that!

DH is not but his brother is. DH hates it and requested that we do not have any jr's, which I was fine with.. In my family it's tradition to use part of the parents name (or variant) for the babies middle but DH put up a fight at first because he didn't want a jr...I said your names have to be identical!

We don't have a Jr but my husband and son share the same first name. Different nicknames, but I think it will still get confusing.

My son is a Jr. For now, we call him Junior. He was 4lb, 4oz at birth and anything else just didn't fit.
His name isn't Edward, but the nickname choices are similar... So for illustrative purposes...
My husband goes by Edward. His family calls him Eddy and its what he went by as a kiddo.
We might have daycare call him Eddy but we haven't decided. Both of us realize that Junior is a very informal nickname and we don't want him to go to school being called Junior. But for now, it really sticks.

We won't have a junior. It's our tradition to name after deceased relatives, not living ones.
We have a friend with a junior and he goes by his initials (first name and J for junior).

Yes! Wagon Jr. is a Junior!!
The original plan was to call him Junior but we mostly refer to him as RJ (for Rob Junior).
I was the one who originally suggested it, and had to kind of convince Wagon Sr. He was hesitant because he didn't want to seem egotistical for naming his son after himself.
We didn't finalize it until after Wagon Jr. was born (plus we were team green!). I always dreamed of naming a son after my husband and I was lucky to marry a guy whose name I absolutely love!! I think Robert is classic and has so many nicknames he (and his friends) can choose from. If Wagon Sr. had a name I did not particularly like, I don't think this would have been an option for us. But we got lucky that we both love the name for our son as well.
I know it's not for everybody, but we absolutely love that our son is a Junior!

If we were to ever have a son, he will be a JR. DH's middle name is his Dad's first name, so I like that part of it, too. I think we will call him Junior since DH goes by both of the common nicknames for his name and I don't want things to get confusing!

Mine us a fifth. No joke. Crazy, yes, but it was SO important to DH. His name is John, though, and we call his dad John, DH Johnny and DS Jack, so its not that confusing.

Nope because hubby's name is pretty Asian and he didn't like it growing up and doesn't want to burden our son with kids making fun of his name too. Kids now days are usually pretty mean and will make fun of other kids names, but if we can help limit some of it, the better.

We won't. DH has an asian name that is confusing in american culture with our last name. DS's first name is actually the only part of either kids name that isn't a family name!

We are having a boy, but he will not be a junior. I kind of feel like a kid deserves his own name, not a diminutive version of his father's, or to be called literally "junior" which will always sound juvenile. Also, my uncle did this - gave his name his name, and after about a week they got sick of having two people in the house with the same name and my cousin's gone by his middle name his entire life. And I figure that has to be a giant pain in the a$$, constantly correcting teachers, employers, etc that you're not Tom you're Joe.
However, I was on board if DH wanted to use his name as a middle name, even though it's stronger name, usually used for first names. But he wasn't big on the idea.

DH is a junior and we decided to nip that trend in the bud. No offense to DH, my FIL or my GMIL but it is an awful name combo and makes family get togethers unbearable!

@mrs. wagon: I like RJ
did you ever run into people who were vocal about hating you calling him Junior? My grandmother does this. She calls him eddy and it makes me crazy because she's so snide about it and tells me every time I see her/talk to her that Junior is a stupid nickname. So frustrating!

If we have a son, he will be a junior. DH is Jason - I call him Jay, for the most part. LO would be Jason, Jay, JJ, whatever comes out!

DS's first name is his dad's middle name.
My dad is William Jeffrey and my brother is Jeffrey William...both go by Jeff.

@septemberlove: I actually had the opposite.. My mom was kinda weirded out that we named him after Wagon Sr., but when I explained we'd probably refer to him as RJ or Junior, she said "oh, RJ... that's cute." It's not common in our culture so I think people are mostly just surprised and thrown off to criticize!

No, but his first name is essentially DH's middle name, which was a big factor when we chose it.
