i'm new here and wanted to join b/c this seems like such a great community!
currently, we are trying for baby #2 and it's been a year. my LO is 2 years old and for everyone that goes through long time TTC, you know how heartbreaking it is month after month to receive bad news.
we finally decided to go for an iui this past cycle. i'm 5dpiui. i decided to do an unmedicated cycle this time around, with only a trigger shot.
question for you ladies that have had iui's, whether they were successful or not- i was monitored by u/s the day before my iui and i had not ovulated yet (hence, the trigger shot). when i went back in the next day for my iui, the doctor me i ovulated. i suspected this b/c i get ovulation pains each month and i felt the ovulation pains when i was going to sleep. so in between the pains and my iui, i had about 10 hours or so. do you think this was too late for my iui? i know i can't turn back time and can't just sit here wondering if the timing was good or not, but i guess i just wanted some hope that i still have a *decent* shot this cycle. please let me know your thoughts, thanks ladies!

I think the standard is to have your IUI between 18-36 hrs after your trigger shot. That's when my last 4 IUIs have been.
The trigger shot is HCG and ovulation occurs when your body sees that rise in HCG. Then your body is suppose the ovulate.
Some REs wait til closer to 22-24 hrs after the trigger shot to have the IUI. I think I read it can take 12-24 hrs after the trigger shot to ovulate.
I'm in the TWW now but I had back to back inseminations (at about 20 and 40 hrs after the trigger shot).
Also, from what I hear those cramps do not necessarily mean you ovulated. I started getting cramps within hours after getting the trigger shot.
ETA- Oh, I reread your post and see that your dr said you ovulated on the day of your IUI.
I have no advice then. I've never gotten an u/s on the day of my IUI. I have gotten a u/s a few days after and it did show I ovulated.
I would call your Dr. Maybe they can clarify. Maybe your body was scheduled to ovulate very soon and your u/s didn't show it. Did you have any blood work done or did you use OPKs?
Also, I think I read somewhere that your egg can still get fertilized by sperm after your ovulate. So there's still hope.
If it were me, I would call my Dr with your concerns.

Lots of questions for you!
I'm assuming your doctor is a RE--is that correct?
Did your doctor do all the testing to see if there might be some kind of challenge going on?
Did you doctor do blood work after your ultrasound? My RE would do an ultrasound and measure my follicles, but my blood work results were the important thing in deciding whether or not I would do my trigger shot.
How did your doctor know you ovulated?
From what I've read, 36 hours after your trigger shot is the ideal time to have an IUI.

yes, my doctor is an re. all bloodwork before the iui showed that both my husband and i are fine. no challenges that she could see. although it did take us about 10 months to conceive baby #1 as well..i guess i should have expected #2 to take just as long, but for some reason, i feel a little more in a hurry to have #2, just so the age gap won't be too big between my kiddos.
she didn't do any bloodwork after the u/s, but she measured my follicle and saw that it was 19mm and said i was ready to trigger. she saw that i ovulated b/c she did another u/s right before the iui.
you are right- from what i have read too, 36 hours after trigger is ideal, but do you ladies know if this means that you are ABOUT to ovulate after the 36 hours, or you already ovulated? hope that question makes sense..

I triggered on a Wed. and had my IUI on a Friday morning--pretty sure I ovulated later that day/evening or early next morning. I'm currently pregnant and measuring exactly on that time schedule!
Good luck! I did the exact same counting of the hours and crazy research for my first IUI, so I know that feeling.
