Hey girls, so dh and I have decided that we will ttc through IUI because we have had no success trying on our own. Dh was taking testosterone shots and we thought that was helping him but after a sperm analysis we found out that it actually lowers your sperm count to almost zero, dh stopped taking the shots and is trying to increase his count. We are giving it 2 months for him to be able to increase his count then we will try IUI. In the meantime i dont know if i should still ttc naturally or not im afraid of havings hope again but dh wants to try so i might do it for him. I wont be taking drugs for IUI unless i have to but i wanted to ask has anyone else conceived through IUI with male factor but no female factor? I want to find out if IUI is a good option for us since our problem is just low sperm count and motility , would love to hear your experience

@WifeMama24: how many months have you been TTC? It might take more than a few months for the testosterone to be out of your DH's system.
ETA: this link says it can take between 11-44 days for testosterone to get out of your DH's body. Is he taking it for a medical condition?

@WifeMama24: So sorry you are having troubles! I really don't have the exact experience but thought I could add a little from our journey. My DH has severe MFI, probably from a childhood issue. He was given T during puberty for medical reasons (for reasons we don't understand) and it may have contributed to the problem...We'll never know.. I checked out fine, but my age was a concern (FSH was on par with my age so borderline high). We were advised to go straight to IVF with ICSI.
DH's urologist talked to him about T (his was low-ish) and told him to not supplement, as it could even worsen his numbers. He also said that they give 3 months for sperm to improve if just from T supplementation (which sounds like your case). He went on and on about T supplementation, even though it was kind of a moot point since DH had that medical treatment decades before. The last the urologist said was that sometimes after T, the sperm count does not bounce back. Also from the RE's perspective, they want at least 5 - 10 million sperm for IUI. My DH only had 3 to 5 million at best, with other numbers also only okay.
I don't want to alarm you to tell you all that, since our (and every) experience is unique. There are girls on here whose DH's have had low counts go up dramatically and have been able to conceive naturally or with minimum intervention. If you are young and have time to see if the count bounces back, you might just wait and try naturally for awhile, but I would give it 3 months after T stops before retesting and starting interventions. I recommend that you have fun and BD in the meantime!

My DH had been getting testosterone supplements for low T but his urologist switched him to Clomid when we told him we were TTC. He said it both boosts T and sperm production. We never had a SA before or after so I don't know exactly how it affected anything but we got pregnant naturally and quickly. May be worth asking about...

@bluestripedbee Thank you for the info, We've been trying for a year on and off but dh has been on T for a year as well he got off it about 3 weeks ago. He started taking it because he got his T checked and his levels were low, the shots were helping his T but we didnt find out until a week ago that they were decreasing his sperm count. a couple months ago he went of T for about a month or two and his T levels went back to normal but he continued taking T shots bc it improved his sex drive and we were ttc so we needed it to do it more often. This month will be our first month ttc without his T, I realized I dont want to miss out on any cycle bc it only takes one

@amorini I hope all the best for you and your hubby, Thank you for sharing your story with me. I agree I have read stories of other women being able to conceive naturally with low sperm count. I will def keep trying Im 26 so I know I still have some time, its just the whole process makes you scared, this last year has been a roller coaster for dh and I, but it has also brought us closer and we will appreciate kids so much more.

@jennypenny thats awesome! I have heard alot about clomid. I will ask dh urologist that after his next SA, im hoping it will be a good count after these next couple months bc dh is changing his lifestyle, after taking T shots dh and I dont want anything to do with meds for the time being, we will see what happens Im glad I still have hope bc a week ago I was a mess.

My husband has low sperm count and his numbers increased dramatically after a few months on clomid. His T has increased as well so maybe try that? We were told to skip right to IUI due to my husbands sperm. Not sure any RE would recommend IUI with male factor.
