Did you have an IV during labor? What about during your hospital stay after?
I had a med free delivery and never had an iv the whole time. My friend was saying how her least favorite part of childbirth was the IV after- she had an epi and an IV in her arm durig labor and delivery, but they removed that and placed one in her hand, capped off, for just in case of emergency, for the rest of her stay.
Wondering what's the norm.

I tested positive for group b strep and had antibiotics during and after labor. My platelettes were a bit low after delivery so they kept the IV in and capped just in case. I was so happy when they removed it!

No IV or any type of medication during, and only some horse-pill-sized ibuprofen after.

I had an iv both during and after. I thought I'd hate it, but I came to the hospital totally worn out from not sleeping, and the iv was a big energy boost! The iv after was oxytocin, I think, to help the uterus shrink. I think some hospitals do that and some don't. It was annoying to be stuck to an iv line another whole day, but if it helped... not such a big deal.

I had it during labour but only after I asked for the drugs. It was capped after the c/s I ended up with and was supposed to stay in until the next day. But somewhere during the day, I accidently ripped it out. Oops.

Yes I was GBS positive and after I had pitocin to shrink uterus.

Yes, had pitocin, fluids and eventually antibiotics and I think (could be wrong) they put acetominophen in there? I had a fever. IVs don't really bother me though!

Yep I had an IV during labor and they left it in (capped off) till right before I was discharged a couple days later. I'm glad it was in because right after I delivered I lost so much blood they pumped me full of fluids through the IV to keep my blood pressure stable. They also had to use it the next day too since I almost fainted again.

I had an IV as I had the flu the week before and was dehydrated from throwing up right before we came to the hospital. It was one of my least favorite parts as I wen med free otherwise but the nurse couldn't get the IV in (dehydrated with small hidden veins) so the anesthesiologist had to put one in. I remember thinking, I wonder if he thinks it's weird to be doing this even though I'm not getting an epidural?

I had an IV because I was induced. For my next birth I'm hoping not to need to be induced therefore I shouldn't need an IV. Though I do need to have a needle put in because I'm high risk of bleeding so they will need quick access to a vein if I need a blood transfusion.

No IV during or after. I was gbs - and had a med free birth. I had a shot of pitocin afterwards in my thigh.

I had an IV during my first labour (epi, pitocin, antibiotics etc) but not during my second labour (no meds / interventions apart from gas for pain relief).

I had an IV for fluids (due to epidural), and eventually they administered Pitocin as well. Shortly after labor they took the IV pole away and left me with a hep-lock. Later that night I asked for it to be removed. Since my vitals were good, she obliged.

I had an IV during both labours as I had an epi with both. From what I recall, they placed the IV before the epi and then it stayed in, capped off, until I was discharged. I hated it as it meant I couldn't use my hand very freely but it seems to be hospital policy in case anything happens and they need easy access to the veins. From what I recall hearing from other mummy friends, it was only if you got an epi or had a c-section, those who went au naturale didn't have one. Still don't understand the need for it though once the epi is out.....

The hep-lock was standard procedure when I was admitted, but it was never conncted and was removed on the third day.

I had an IV (and epidural) they capped it off after labour and left it for maybe 12 hours? I have tiny veins and they colapsed two veins putting the IV in so I wanted it out ASAP.

I had one but just for fluids Bc my labour came on so fast and furious and I wasn't able to eat or drink anything.

Yep. I had an epi with all 3 and an IV and fluids are required. With my 3rd I was also GBS+ so I had to get iv antibiotics as well. The heplock was removed 24 hrs after delivery.

I had an IV placed during labor so they could bolus me with fluids to help get baby out of distress. I had it removed the next day because I ended up with a cs.

I was induced so I had an IV right from the very beginning for fluids. I ran a fever at the end of my delivery, so I was on antibiotics for 24 hrs. They thought I might need a transfusion as well so I had the IV thing in my hand for quite a while after. It was sooo nice when it came out because I was so nervous about catching it on something or somehow pulling it out.

I had an IV both times. When N was born the IV came out pretty quickly. When E was born I had the IV my whole stay. There were complications from my epidural that meant I would need IV support. When I wasn't actively getting medicine or fluids it was capped off.

I had one...the only time it bothered me was when I took a shower after birth (it was capped off right afterwards). Trying to keep that hand dry was a pain in the butt.

I was also induced so had an IV going the moment I laid down in the hospital bed. Post birth, I had the port stay in for emergencies post delivery, but it was removed after the nurses deemed everything to be going fine about 24 hours later.

The first time I had an epi and an iv, the second time I got an iv when I was 10cm due to being gbs+. It was removed about 18 hours after delivery.

I have an IV port placed immediately in my hand. Nothing went into it until I got pitocin about 8 hours into my induction. Then it was used during my c section. But they removed it before I left the OR and I never had any IV stuff the rest of my stay.

It's so weird that I don't remember and it was less than 2 years ago! I had an epidural so I know I had one before, but don't remember when it came out.
I also didn't think I had a catheter, but later I was told i did have it and they removed it. I was totally unaware, jaha.
