@agold: Primarily we didn't want to choose twins (if it happened on its own, obviously we'd be ecstatic to welcome 2 babies and would be fine and make it work, but we didn't want to increase our chances of that happening).
Also, because we don't have a firm handle/diagnosis on why I've had so many losses (and if this cycle didn't work, why not?), we didn't want to use up too many embryos at once, if that makes sense (giving ourselves only 2 tries to figure out what might be happening instead of 4, if we choose to keep trying instead of just being done). I'm 99% we would not choose to do another retrieval at this point, and we're going in blind on 'what to fix' to increase of chances of one sticking.
Our clinic protocol for us is also a single embryo transfer for your first cycle if there's no compelling reason otherwise (and with no diagnosis, that's the case for us). I think if we had strongly wanted to do two, she would have, but she definitely leans more towards one.

@endymion4: We are also only doing one embryo transfer. We already have a daughter and don't want to risk getting more than we bargained for. I'm also scared of 2 embryos splitting and ending up with 4. It has happened!
Did any of you ladies have any spotting while you were stimming? I had some yesterday and again today and it seems to be old blood (dark and brownish)..

we are officially a negative. apparently i am excellent at getting pregnant at random (but not keeping them), but try to put an embryo in the right place at the right time and forget it stopping meds and wait for period time. Feeling gutted, but at the same time part of me is super relieved to take a break from the meds for a few months!

Thanks for the welcome ladies.
@NorthStar: Thanks! I'll look into those.
@agold: I'm okay. Very impatiently waiting until January. I'm on birth control to slow any regrowth of my endometriosis. Nothing else yet. DH is trying to wean off of his Effexor medication to up our odds of finding sperm during his mTESE. The withdrawl is getting rough for him. I really hope he can stick it out.

@endymion4: I'm so sorry this cycle didn't work for you. That is such a bummer. I hope you can use the weekend to be kind to yourself and try not to be too sad. You still have 4 frozen embryos just waiting to give you the best chances possible! And it absolutely makes sense that since you are still possibly undergoing different tests and changes in protocols that you want to space out your chances with those 4 frozen embryos that you have left. As for taking a break from meds for a few months, I think these upcoming months are the best few months out of the whole year to take a break. Enjoy your holidays and sip some wine if that's your kind of thing.
@NorthStar: I have not had spotting while stemming. Can you call your RE's office and ask about it?

@endymion4: So sorry to hear- big hugs! I hope you can be extra kind to yourself this weekend.

@agold: No, I haven't called them as I'll be seeing them in the morning. It's not a lot, just thought that it was odd.
@endymion4: I'm so sorry that this cycle didn't work for you Please be good to yourself this weekend and take it easy. Thinking of you..

@endymion4: I'm sorry if you've covered this already, but did you do an endometrial scratch biopsy pre-transfer this time? I've read some promising things about how they can help with results.

AF is starting. We have one more IUI (third is free besides the meds, so we should at least try). I'm considering getting a second opinion from my friends RE (40 minutes away) or then doing IVF with current RE. My soonest IVF would be to start suppression 12/28. DH wants to travel to Paris for Christmas, and doesn't think one month is going to be a big deal. I want to get this show on the road, but nothing is quick.

@AmeliaBedilia: Wishing you the best of luck with IUI #3 and hoping third times a charm! If you move on to IVF, there's a lot of hurry up and waiting... And I hope that the timing doesn't take away your enjoyment of a trip to Paris. That just sounds magical!!

@endymion4: Ugh. I'm so sorry. Sending you warm hugs! Take care of you.

@agold: Thank you! we have 3 frosties left, but the meds have been hard on me with other issues, so we'll have to reassess after we get past this one!
@AmeliaBedilia: @NorthStar: @Amorini: Thank you!
@momazon: Thanks! we plan to ask the RE about that when we meet with her. We had talked about it before (not with her) and decided to try this cycle just on a normal protocol. Do you have any particular links that might be helpful with more information? I'm going to have hubby look it up in the medical literature as well.
@AmeliaBedilia: Good luck with IUI #3 (I have about 5 friends where IUI 3 was their lucky cycle, so hoping the same for you!) Paris sounds lovely, but yes, the timing of all of this is SO tricky!! we're considering somewhere beachy in feb, but now we'll have to see how timing works if we do another cycle sooner rather than later

@endymion4: I'm so sorry.
I'm here, just quiet. Following along as best I can. Last hcg draw was 19, so it's down but not far enough. I started bleeding HEAVILY today.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@Miss Sarah: Thanks!
@endymion4: that's really encouraging to hear- I appreciate you sharing that!
@jaguar: big hugs!
I'm bleeding just lightly enough to hold out some shred of insane hope. I found out my IRL IF friend who has been trying for almost three years got pregnant on a break from treatment. I go back and forth on feeling hopeless vs encouraged. DH was Pointing out that God might be delaying since we have so much going on. The renovation should be finished December or January, then moving, selling house, farm stuff, etc. on a happy note, we are picking up five ducks today.

@endymion4: I am really sorry!
@jaguar: Hugs Do they offer PGS/PGD in Australia?
@AmeliaBedilia: Wishing you all the best on IUI #3!!
@NorthStar: Hope your monitoring appointment went well today! Did they say anything about the spotting?
AFM: I had a basic annual GYN exam on Friday, and boy do I HATE sitting in the waiting room there. All the bellies… they should have a separate waiting room for pregnant ladies .
pear / 1881 posts
@GreenThumb: they are having me come back tomorrow and think that I will possibly trigger Monday. That would be 11 days of stims, including Monday. Is that normal? I had 6 follicles around 15mm and they said my lining looked good. Since the blood was brownish/old, they didn't seem concerned about the spotting. I'm starting to get restless and want to get this party started/know how it ends up.
@jaguar: I'm so sorry you are still going through this. How often are they having you come in?
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@NorthStar: Every 3-4 days at this point. I hope Tuesday's one shows baseline hcg again. I've bled pretty heavily so I hope so!
@GreenThumb: They do.. we just can't afford it.
@AmeliaBedilia: Ducks! Adorable!
pear / 1986 posts
@jaguar: I know, it is very pricey so it would be out of our league, too. What are they suggesting for your next steps (if you are even ready to think about that yet)? I'm hoping Tuesday gives you some resolution and a break from bloods.
@NorthStar: I think I've heard between 8-11 days is typical for stims. I think I did 9 days (not counting trigger day) during my fresh, so sounds like you are right on!! Yay for Monday trigger… does that mean Wednesday ER?! Cheering you on majorly over here! We need the tides to turn on this board
pear / 1881 posts
@GreenThumb: I sure hope so! But yeah, if I trigger tomorrow night, then ER on Wednesday!! I'm about done with driving 2.5 hours each way to my RE and am not sure how much I can take! I am SO exhausted between doing that, attempting to get my work done, taking care of our 3.5 year old. whew..it's really hard!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: Wow, you're a super star getting all that done! Sending prayers for lots of good quality eggs!
AFM, we had a monitoring appointment today. I asked about increasing Femara, and he doesn't think that's a good idea, but depending on the results next week, we might add low dose FSH. I asked about getting it quickly, and he said they have samples- yea! He didn't say how many follicles there were since this was CD4, but DH said there were "plenty, I stopped counting at ten on one ovary." I'm guessing 20, which is a huge improvement. I had 10 at my first one in late July, then 14-15 in the two after that. Given my AMH of 0.27, this makes me feel a lot better. He mentioned next step would be IVF vs laparoscopy. I lean IVF since it seems like that actually gets me closer to a baby. Would a laparoscopy for possible endo make IVF more likely to work?
apricot / 365 posts
@NorthStar: Yeah for egg retrieval and getting one step closer! (and for ending that commute! what a lot to juggle!)
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: How many trips have you had to do for IVF? If this IUI doesn't work, I'm debating on changing clinics, and the new one will be further (though not as bad as yours). Wow, 5 hours total- that is rough!
pear / 1881 posts
So, I might have to go back tomorrow!!!! ARGH! I have about 6 follicles over 16 or 18 and one at 22. There are some smaller ones too. The nurse said that I'm on the border, so they will look at my bloodwork and call me this afternoon to let me know for sure.
@AmeliaBedilia: I've had 7 ultrasounds and bloodwork, counting today. It's been really hard, more so because work is crazy right now and I literally have no time to be there. I might have been able to do a few ultrasounds at the beginning locally; however, it would have cost me extra since the ultrasounds at my RE are covered under the program we paid for.
How far away is the other clinic?

Quick vent… I could scream! We had our last consult appt. on Oct 21 and DH and I were BOTH under the impression that our case was going to be headed to committee for review and that it could take up to 2 weeks to hear back. Well, I haven't heard anything after waiting the requisite 2 weeks so I called the office this morning and the IVF nurse told me they've been waiting for US to pay BEFORE our case is reviewed. AHHHHHHH! I could have given you my credit card number on Oct 21! WTF! Clearly a misunderstanding, but I HATE things like this. So, we are now properly paid up and we better not get pushed another whole month because of this!! I want to start BCPs THIS MONTH - we have been waiting FOREVER for a cycle!
@NorthStar: OMG girl - you are doing amazing! 2.5 hours each way is a crazy commitment, especially when you have an LO at home. FX for trigger tonight! ETA: I really hope that you don't have to have another check tomorrow!!
@AmeliaBedilia: YAY for a lot of follicles!! I don't know much about the lap impact on IVF, but definitely something to consider if it will help. What did the RE think? Let's hope this IUI does the trick and you don't even need to make that decision.
pear / 1881 posts
@GreenThumb: OMG - I would totally scream at that and insist that they review your case ASAP. I HATE when stuff like that happens and their communication sucks. You have every right to be angry, upset, etc. When will you know if you can move forward?
I feel like I'm losing my mind during this process. I also don't know if I'm responding good enough with 6 or 7 follicles, but everyone tells me that it's quality over quantity. It's just hard when I've invested SO MUCH TIME into this and it's still unknown how it will play out. I'm not sure if I'll be able to go through this again, if we need to or it won't be able to be again until April or May because of my tax/busy season (I'm a CPA). {go away bad thoughts - this WILL work!}
pear / 1986 posts
Just got the call back from the nurse and our case will be reviewed on the 19th. I'm not expecting AF until the 28th, so that seems like it will work out just fine. So glad I called this morning!!!
@NorthStar: I know it's hard to stay positive all the time, but hang in there! You are almost at the finish line.
pear / 1881 posts
@GreenThumb: oh yay!! I'm so glad that they will be able to do it soon and in line with your expectations. Holding hope for you!
Thanks for the positive vibes and I'll do my best to stay positive too! Only a few more days!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: Ugh! So hoping you don't have to make an extra trip! The new clinic is 45 minutes away so 1.5 hours round trip. I know that doesn't sound terrible comparatively. I called and their office sounds good. He does acupuncture himself and includes it on al his IUIs, is open Saturday mornings, and doesn't batch IVFs. They don't do PGD, which I don't think is critical for us. I'm 35, no miscarriages (never been pregnant), and we might not get enough eggs to make it worthwhile anyway. I think we will set up an appointment, and if this cycle Ends up working, I'll be so happy I won't care about the wasted time or money.
@GreenThumb: omg, that is so annoying! I feel like we keep having stupid things like this come up and this process is already frustrating without people being stupid.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I'm so sorry this past cycle wasn't it for you. But I'm hoping very much that your third IUI is a success! I hope you can make it to Paris. DH and I are trying to plan a trick and its just so hard with simultaneously planning IVfs. I don't know how a laproscopy works with IVF, but maybe just go with what you RE recommends.
@endymion4: How are you doing? I hear you on the meds being hard. They are tough on me, too, and that's a big reason why I'm leaning towards transferring two.
@jaguar: Thinking about you! I hope Tuesday gives you the results you want.
@GreenThumb: Its such a good thing that you called. Any unnecessary delays during IVF are horrible! I'm glad the timing of the case review is still working out. What did you have to pay for? The case review? Or your next IVF cycle?
@NorthStar: I'm so sorry your trigger is being pushed a day. Its a bummer to have to drive back there again, but one extra day in the scheme of this is something you can do! You are so close! Stay positive!
As for the anxiety you are currently feeling, I absolutely understand that. But you know the saying - don't borrow trouble. Your eggs could all be rockstars and you won't ever have to think about doing a second IVF, so try not to worry about it now. Be excited about what you've got going on. 6-7 is a great number and sometimes there are even more hidden that get retrieved. Keep your spirits up!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I think that RE sounds great if you end up having to go that route. It takes me 30 minutes to get to my RE's office, and that is taking a toll road. If it rains, its more like 45 minutes. For my IVF cycle, once I got started, I went 6 times over a couple of weeks, and then I went 7 days in a row leading up to my egg retrieval. It helps that my RE's office is fairly close to where I work.
pear / 1986 posts
@agold: We paid for the whole shebang - IVF+ICSI for the low, low price of $9,500! Fresh cycle here we come… Now I just need to get my meds list after the case review so I can start pricing meds!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@GreenThumb: Ha! That's such an awful amount to pay. I paid nearly the same $9,250 for egg retrieval, icsi and blast. (I think "blast" was assisted hatching.) Such a bummer. I got a call last week before my first FET appointment telling me I'd have to pay for that, too, right away. I was just like "yea... my credit card's on file." Credit card it is at this point for me!
pear / 1986 posts
@agold: I know, I called DH so I could get his CC number. On that hefty purchase, we'd better get all the reward points we can!
apricot / 365 posts
@GreenThumb: SOO frustrating!! what happens at the review?
@NorthStar: Sending calming thoughts your way! this is such an exhausting mental process!!
@agold: Coming off the meds has hit me hard--did this happen with anyone else? Over the weekend i felt like I was hit by a truck and just SO TIRED. AF started today, I start back on birth control (which I HATE) on day 3 until we decide what our plan is. We meet with the RE next week to talk about it (and will be asking about the endometrial scratch that a few people have mentioned).
@GreenThumb: @agold: When I went in once not knowing I need to pay something around $12K at that appointment, I was so panicked. I ended up splitting it on a couple cards and praying it would go through
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@dookie32: I hope your transfer went well and early in the day like you had hoped and that you are now relaxing with your husband and enjoying a movie! Update us when you can!
@NorthStar: Woo hoo! Its go time! I hope you do okay with your trigger shot. I had zero issues with it.

@agold: I hope so! I have a nurse friend that lives close to me, so I'm going to run over there at 8:30 and have her do it
