Girls - my consult appointment scheduled for tomorrow has been moved to Friday because nurse said I need to have an HSS performed. Has anyone had that?
She is prescribing an antibiotic. Should I be nervous about this? She said its to check the (uterus? i forget) for defects. Ugh. And she wants my husband to come. Double ugh.

Sh*t! I just got an email about my meds. Just over $5,000! Oh my gosh. Insets the panic. I don't have time to shop around for these but no way do I want to pay $5,000. WTF.

@agold: I've never had an hss, only an hsg. Sorry no advice there! That is crazy about the meds! Is there any work around, or generics they can order?
kiwi / 613 posts
@agold: what meds do they have you on? Did you try WinFertility? One thing I'd advise is not to order everything all at once, in case you respond really strongly and they scale back your dosage partway through the stims! I ended up with a ton extra from my first IVF because the prescription was for so much. (I rolled it into a new cycle but still...). If you let us know what meds, maybe someone knows of a way to save?
I had a saline sonogram done, is that an HSS? Mine wasn't a big deal, as far as I recall, but then again I didn't have problems with pain during the HSG either. Now the endometrial scratch biopsy, now THAT was painful! Eeeeeeeks!

@bloved: Sending more hugs! How are you today?
@agold: Whoa! Like Momazon, I would recommend WinFertility if you don't need to do injections until next Friday (right?). If they receive your cash payment (bank transfer) by 4 pm, FedEx will deliver the next day. I bet you still have time to check (have your RE fax it over) and the price will definitely be lower.
Once I get the Follistim cartridge amounts changed like we were talking about yesterday (a $500 savings in itself, thank you bees!), I will spend $2800. Three other pharmacies quoted me in the low $4000s so it is a big savings!
Sounds like you aren't doing a Lupron protocol -- which would explain the time difference in our schedules. As I understand it, Lupron is the breaks before the gas (the stims). It suppresses the LH phase and prevents ovulation. Just one way of going about this whole thing!
I had a saline sonogram / shg (?) last week. I guess it has a lot of names. I had mild discomfort with an HSG and the discomfort from the saline sonogram was even milder. Nothing goes up into your tubes so I felt less "pressure." I wonder why you need antibiotic and your DH there. I went alone. I need to get antibiotic in preparation for retrieval but not this procedure. Anyway, good luck!

@momazon: You are so sweet to reply. I am definitely going to try to call WinFertility. This is the number I am going to call: 855-705-4483. Hope that's right. So here's what I was quoted for: Follistim 300iu (x6) for $1,677.60 (50% later with a mail in rebate); Menopur 75iu (x30!) $2,396.68; Ganirelix 250 mcg (x4) $519.48; Leuprolide $98.99; Pregnyl $98.99; Progesterone (x40!) $179.80; Estradiol, Doxycycline and Methysometime all covered by insurance, thank God. The first three are the ones causing the problem. I think I was given an estimate of like $3,000 for meds. So $5,000 is blowing me away. I don't like expensive surprises.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@agold: Here's mine for $2,800 with Win. They bundle so you don't see itemized pricing. I don't know what Menopur is, but that's not on my list. Hey, you are doing leuprolide! Not included here are valium and tylenol 3 which are all of $5 with insurance.
10 300 IU Follistim
1 2 wk. kit Lupron (leuprolide)
1 10000 IU Pregnl (Hcg)
1 4 ml vial lowdose Hcg
16 patches Brevelle
90 200 mg Prometrium
10 100 mg Doxycycline

@Amorini: Thanks for your response. I feel like I'm in a major panic. But its just money. I can always put it on my totally paid off credit card. [Insert insane laugh.] I am definitely going to call WinFertility tomorrow morning. Gees. And yes, I remember you talking about your procedure. I think my husband is supposed to be there because this is the start of my IVF cycle. I will be meeting with the doctor and then later the nurse. Probably to show us how to do stomach injections or something. But this ain't my first rodeo. I want in and out and to avoid all eye contact while I cry into my credit card bill.
ETA: I'm being half dramatic and funny.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Amorini: I want valium!!!!! I need it right now, I think.
We have a lot of the same stuff. Its just the Menopur 75iu (x30!) $2,396.68 and Ganirelix 250 mcg (x4) $519.48 that killing me. The follistim divided in half won't be horrendous.

Buying the meds makes it all seem real, doesn't it? *hugs* You've got this, ladies. x
persimmon / 1114 posts
@agold: I don't know your protocol obviously, but that seems like a lot of menapur! I had the same amount of follistim ordered as you, but only received about 15 menapur (3 boxes of 5). Could they have misquoted that? (I may be grasping at straws here, but how nice would it be if a simple fix!?)
kiwi / 613 posts
@bloved: Congratulations on the BFP!!!!! That is so thrilling! Your first ultrasound was soooo early, that sounds pretty normal for what they expect at that time, right? All my fingers crossed for you for a sticky one!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@bloved: Thank you. I will ask the RE nurse about that. I just checked, and I was given a general quote of $4,000 for meds, but specifically told that I probably wouldn't need that much because I respond well to meds.
I searched the pharmacy website that gave me the quote and found a folistim and menopur discount that would save $1,198.48, bringing the cost down to $3,821.13. That's a tad easier to stomach. But for sure I'm calling winfertility asap in the morning and asking my re nurse about the menopur quantity. Thank you for cluing me into that. I love grasping at straws.

@jaguar: Yes, it does make it seem even more real. Ugh. I wish you all lived close and we could go to a movie or something right now.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@bloved: good call! That does look like a lot of Menopur. @agold: telepathically sending you Valium...it will all work out and, like you said, it's just money.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Amorini: Thanks! I found out that diazepam is vallium! Woo hoo! I wish I could just take one right now while I sort through this meds price issue.

@agold: Hi I will catch up on everyone's updates tomorrow and give you my own update then. Tomorrow is my beta. Have not peed on any sticks yet, I have no idea how I made it this far. I'll do it tomorrow am before the beta so I am better prepared to process the news I'll hear on the phone.

@YogiRunner: You are a rockstar! Good for you for not taking a home pregnancy test. Are you sure you want to do one tomorrow morning before your blood test? You are amazing either way. I'm so excited for you!
My only update is me crying about the price of IVF meds. No biggie. I'm just having a personal melt down, full on pity party in my office today.

@YogiRunner: good luck tomorrow!
I am sitting in the ultrasound rooms and freaking out about the scan or the bloods going wrong. So nervous all the time!

Lining is 12mm already. Had 22/14 on Right & Left ovaries. Measureable one was at 20, a few 17 & 16s. I bet my progesterone is too high with that many stupid follicles..
Gotta have bloods done now and then an anxious wait to this afternoon to hear back from clinic.
persimmon / 1114 posts
@momazon: thank you! I am less blind panicked and moving towards cautiously optimistic. Really hopeful for good news on Tuesday!
@YogiRunner: you are amazing that you have not tested! I am very impressed by your willpower. Fingers crossed for you tomorrow.
@jaguar: I am so hopeful you get good news from your clinic.

@YogiRunner: praying to the beta gods for you!
@bloved: glad you are feeling less panicked! Your pregnant!!
@jaguar: Do they know why your P spikes? Just curious if some people have high P. Most ladies are worrying about low P. In any case, hope it all works out!
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@Amorini: I have had progesterone issues for a while. It's too low after transfer/O (so I need a lot of support there) but when I'm doing stim cycles, it seems to spike too early - and no, they have NO idea what's going on. It's why we changed to a longer cycle, to hope for fewer follies/less prog. I'm really worried.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@jaguar: sorry to hear about your P issues! (Sounds funny! Gotta laugh where we can!) I really hope the longer protocol helps to manage whatever is going on. Lots of girls who take the long, slow route seems to eventually have success ... Hope your labs turn out just fine.

Just got the call - they're going to go ahead and do trigger tomorrow night, last dose tomorrow morning... for EPU Monday! And.. best of all.. progesterone is controlled at 2!!!! I am so relieved I could scream. So excited!
Now to stress out about egg retrieval, haha!

@YogiRunner: FX for your beta tomorrow! Do you suspect one way or the other?
@jaguar: That's wonderful news! FX for a great ER!

@agold: I concur with @jaguar. You've totally got this!!
@bloved: how are you feeling??
@jaguar: Yes!! You're well on your way. So excited for you friend. xx

So I'm shaking a little this morning... Don't mind my hubby's "mandals". I thought getting our morning feet was cute but he was not amused

@jaguar: How wonderful! So glad this cycle is working so far!! Were you on stims already? I was thinking that you were doing injections to keep everything in waiting mode, but I guess not. How exciting!!

@YogiRunner: Congratulations! So happy for you!
@jaguar: Glad things are going well!
It's great to log on here and see good news. I'm a little worried that our planned IUI will be too late. I'm doing femara days5-9, with repeat scan CD12. Our hope is to do it CD15 since wears both off work, and I usually ovulate on my own CD15, occasionally day 14. I trigger with ovidrel- will that hold off ovulation?
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Are they monitoring you so that they tell you when to trigger? I actually had my IUI two days earlier than normal this time around since I was responding so well. It might just depend on how things look, unless you aren't being monitored and in that case, I'm not really sure.
