@LovelyPlum: thanks lady! In a cab to the doc now!
Small hiccup: I forgot to take the antibiotic last night. I've been so vigilant with the damn shots, then when all I have to do is swallow a pill I forget. Doc said it's ok and to take it this morning with a tiny sip of water. So I did. And a half hour I threw up. I guess because my stomach is empty.
Hopefully it's not a big deal!

@LovelyPlum: yeah I told the nurse when I got here and she said it's totally fine and not to worry. So I'm not worrying I'm just so excited to see how many eggs they can get! For me I need quantity because my odds of a good egg are low! Prayers for lots of eggies!

@Shutterbug: I am so behind on HB stuff, it has been a busy week. I wanted to stop by and tell you how excited I am for you as you start the steps for your IVF next month!!!!!

@Shutterbug: We are doing good! I don't know if you also saw that I had some bleeding due to my placenta partially covering my cervix, but I have been trying to take it a little easier. Starting to get more exciting and real as we are telling more people!

@Happygal: @Mrs.Someone: @kentuckygirl: @Shutterbug: @spaniellove: @twodoghouse: Thanks ladies! I'm all done and getting a bite to eat with DH.
13 eggs! When I was still groggy I thought they said 30 and I was shocked. But my RE is very happy with 13 since he said 8-14 is the sweet spot (for him).
So now I'm anxiously awaiting the call from the embryologist to see how many fertilized. Can't wait!!!

@MrsKoala: @twodoghouse: @Happygal: @spaniellove: @kentuckygirl: @Leialou: @Shutterbug: Thanks so much ladies. I'm not sure I'd be getting through all of this without you and the rest of HB
Got a call from the embryologist today: of the 13 retrieved, 12 were mature and 10 fertilized! I'm so happy with those numbers! The doc said to expect, on average, 15-20% of the embryos to be "good" (ie chromosomally "normal"). So that means we *should* have 1 or 2 to transfer next month. They'll continue to give us updates on how the embryos are progressing over the next few days. Plan is to take a few cells from the ones still hanging on at 5 days and freeze them all.
The waiting for the PGD results is going to be brutal! But I feel really hopeful

@SweetiePie: That's so wonderful to hear! I remember you were stressing about how many cycles you might have to do. I hope you get the good embryo you need out of this batch!

@SweetiePie: 15% to 20% is awesome!! Crossing my fingers that the PGD results come out great and you have more good embryos than you are expecting!

@SweetiePie: Oh my, you have such good numbers!! Congrats. Here's to hoping and praying you get a bunch of "good" ones to transfer and freeze. *hugs*

Hi Ladies! I am so swamped at work, but I just got a call from the embryologist at the RE's office and I had to take a minute to share...all of our embryos are doing very well...all TWELVE of them! We had 10 on Sunday morning and today they called to say that they all look great and are set for a biopsy on Thursday. So I said "so we still have all 10?" and she said "Oh, you actually have 12! 2 of the 10 split!"
Ahhh! I am just so excited. I know that I'm only going to have 1 or 2 (if I'm lucky), but it would be so incredible if one of the chromosomally "good" ones became two!
Gahhhhhh this wait until the PGD results are back will be torture! Its all I can think about and we haven't even biopsied yet!

@SweetiePie: wow, that's so fascinating! So, if one of the two that split is chromosomally normal, would you put them both back? Wouldn't they be identical twins? Imagine if you put one back now and were successful, and then the other back in a couple years for LO #2... they'd be identical twins two+ years apart in age. How wild! Sorry, I love science, lol! Seriously though, I'm so happy they're all still doing well!

@SweetiePie: That's amazing! Your embryos are superstars! Keep growing little ones!
@Shutterbug: Isn't science crazy?
honeydew / 7463 posts
@Shutterbug: Seriously, get out of my head! I said almost the exact same thing to DH after I got the call, about having identical twins and transferring one now and the other in a couple of years. Haha. I would never (that's just a little to weird for me) but its SO funny to think about!
We are planning on putting in 2 no matter what (if we have them). We've talked through all of the possibilities and agree that 2 is right for us. So yes, the thought of actually being able to put in 2 healthy identicals is very exciting! But I'm really trying not to get my hopes up, odds aren't great that they are healthy.
This is definitely harder than I thought - the aspect of healthy vs not and PGD and all of that...I want all of them to be healthy and the thought that most aren't, it makes me sad that I'll never know them. Is it weird that as of right now, in my mind, I have 12 babies growing in a lab?

@LovelyPlum: @MrsKoala: @spaniellove: Thanks Ladies! I do hope that these great numbers (retrieval, fert, and two sets of twins) are all good omens

@SweetiePie: So so fascinating! I've never heard of that happening during IVF. Are you doing the the process that takes constant pictures as it develops? It would be so amazing to see the splitting if they have a photo.
@Shutterbug: LOL, I was going to suggest the same thing! Those kids would probably resent it though
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@SweetiePie: oh I totally understand, and as much as I'd love to see that happen (on GMA or something, haha) I think it's the right decision not to do that to the kiddos... talk about being stuck in your older sibling's shadow! I think it's really sweet that you are thinking of the little embies as your 12 babies This is such a tough process, so it's good to take what happy news and thoughts you can from it.

@Mrs.Someone: You know, I wanted to ask her if they had pictures but I got nervous for some reason. Plus, I had to leap out of a meeting to take the call, so I didn't have a lot of time. But I want to ask the next time I get an update!
It is crazy that TWO of them split. I was't expecting anything like that, I thought that if they did it would happen after transfer. I found this article doing a quick search that explains the different stages that splitting into twins can occur and the sort of "levels" of being identical.
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/science/wonderquest/2001-05-09-why-twins-form.htm
I'm guessing that my split happened sometime in Day 1, after they called me...because I'm only on Day 3 now, so it can't be a day 4 or 5 split.
I wonder if its because of the ICSI and/or assisted hatching?

That is a great report!!!! I can't believe that 2 of them split! So far you have great odds!
