It's a really interesting film about the literal value of higher education and why it's getting so ridiculously expensive (even compared to when many of us were in college).
Is anyone planning to watch?

Thanks for mentioning it. I hadn't heard about it but it sounds really interesting (I work in higher ed)
Do you know what time it's on? I may have DH set the DVR since he's home today

I also work in higher ed and have not heard about it. I'll have to check it out.

@MaryM: @MrsKoala: 9pm Eastern! I saw it this summer on a limited theater release and it was thought-provoking, to say the least. I will also probably DVR tonight...

@FliegepilzHut: I haven't heard of it (and I can't watch it because we get zero local channels on our TV), but you might be interested in this:

The "education" section is in the lower left hand corner of the "yellow" box. Enlightening that Harvard's investments net them enough money that if they completely eliminated tuition, it would mean only a 15% budget cut...

@Espion: I'm having a tough time viewing it on an iPhone. But that's fascinating!

I finally watched it night before last and last night. I thought it was incredibly interesting and brought up a lot of really good points.
I feel sort of torn though. The example of Harvard made SO MUCH sense...because they have a massive endowment. But the school I went to and worked for doesn't. And we do rely a lot on tuition to keep us going.
As much as I hate to admit it (I swore I'd never donate to the school until my loans were paid off), I think it makes a really good case alumni giving (especially for smaller niche schools). Not only does it help the endowment, but one of the ways USNews does their rankings is by alumni engagement. And that's measured solely on how many alumni donate at least a dollar.
