What are your thoughts on Jimmy Kimmel's annual Halloween prank with parents telling (while videotaping) their kids that they've eaten all of the Halloween candy?
I get so uncomfortable watching it! I feel so badly for the kids. Then I get angry that their parents are manipulating them for 15 minutes if fame.

I havent see in yet, he did something similar at xmas last year but some of the kids were really rude when their parents gave them "bad" xmas gifts as a joke

Well...okay I'm not going to lie, I died laughing...I thought it was funny. No harm in a little prank, they all found out it was a joke afterwards. I joke with my nieces all the time (they are older than LO so they get it) and this is something I would have done to them.

I actually have a harder time with these children's coping techniques... The entitlement that so many of these kids have is sad to me. Growing up our Halloween candy was shared with everyone in the house. If it was eaten by our parents, too bad. They certainly wouldn't stand for us pitching a fit like that!

@Beyond2: that totally bugs me too! I like watching the kids that handle it gracefully. I feel better knowing some parents have raised their kids well, and then I remember those same parents are putting their kids on the Internet/TV so the world can laugh at them. And I feel sad all over again.

I thought it was hilarious and disturbing. Some of those kids? oh my gosh. Threatening to kick your mom? Calling her a bitch? Come on now.
And then I remember that it's all about candy and just go "sigh"

@Beyond2: Yes! DS puts his candy in a drawer in the kitchen, and we all eat what we like. When it's gone, it's gone. We refill the drawer with candy all the time, anyways, though, so candy isn't something that is foreign. I allow it in moderation...mostly to avoid this type of reaction about it.

I thought most of them were funny, but a few were a little out there. Honestly, if I had pulled this prank and LO reacted by violently kicking or throwing something, I would definitely NOT be sending that evidence into national media. I would be too embarrassed.

@Beyond2: YES!!! I was glad to see the one girl who was sobbing hysterically and telling her mom "It's okay! It's okay!" - a little humility, children..

@JoJoGirl: this girl made DH and I sad. She was SO sweet. The other kids were entitled little hellions. But her "Can I go eat my cereal?" Then just quietly sobbed...poor girl.

i thought most of it was pretty funny, with a few exceptions. @bpcmarj: this one broke my heart. so did the little boy who just said "it's okay".
i don't think i would feel comfortable playing this trick on my LO, but probably because i would be scared that i'd get a really bratty reaction that would make me all disappointed in my parenting skills.

I thought it was awesome. I love it every year. But I keep in mind that it is a joke...can't read too much into the parenting since it is an out-of-the-ordinary situation.

It's pretty funny except for the kids who react violently. That freaks me out. I understand the upset kids who are crying though. I would be sad too!

I was torn and agree with what most of you have said - I wanted to hug the poor little girl who wanted to finish her cereal and immediately tell her it wasn't true, not give the candy back to the kid who started kicking the car and totally losing it, and laughed even though I knew I shouldn't at the girl who knows how to properly use the word b****. I was also pretty amused by the little girl who wanted to know why her mom does this to her every Halloween. Oh, and I love the kid who just said okay and the little brother who was just copying the older one but ends up giving the thumbs up.
On the other hand, the kids who just cried and got really upset (like the 'that isn't very kind') made me sad. I think you kind of have to just know your kid's personality - I have a 4 year old nephew who is super dramatic who loves jokes and says just kidding all the time. I wouldn't feel bad pulling a joke on him for a few minutes.

I think they're hysterical, but I agree with a lot of PPs about the reactions of some of the kids. I think the kids who say, "It's alright" are so sweet, and the ones who cry and whine? C'mon, I'd cry and whine, too, if someone took all my Halloween candy! But some of their reactions are a bit scary. I definitely agree with @wonderstruck: that you just have to know your kid. And if he reacts by punching a wall (one kid did this the first year Jimmy Kimmel issued this challenge), maybe look into some counseling! Yikes.

I like the videos for the most part. I also would NOT be sending in the video if my kid had a violent response...
Anyone else crack up at the girl who called her mom fat? She said it so matter-of-factly, not really trying to be mean... haha
@Mrsbells: did you see the Christmas gift one where the mom had two REALLY polite children? The boy actually liked his lame gift (forget what it was, wasn't the worst though), and the girl got a half eaten sandwich, but was still decently nice about it? Parenting WIN!
